What kind of DMap is it?
Normally the problems you mentioned can be solved by setting the DMap's level number to be above 10.
If you're using a Cave/Item room, make sure you've got the Guy and String and Room Type and everything set correctly.

The DMap type is Overworld.
I think setting the level number above 10 is probably the issue, then.

But the help clearly states that you can only use 0 for overworlds,!
Does it really...? That's odd... I wonder what the reason for that is? Well, the easy solution is to set a Entrance/Exit tile warp to a room with its own DMap, and set that room's DMap to be at least 10.
DMap overworlds can be given numbers greater than 10 without causing any problems at all. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

You really need to read the tutorials available, particularly if you're going to argue with people that give you the correct answers to your questions.
A message string requires the dmap to have a level number greater than 0.
A shop requires the dmap to have a level number greater than 0.
:O)
ZC information I've compiled and my quests

Don't ever buy an MTD Product, it's cheap over-priced garbage
