Where else can you play a video game and get an aerobic workout at the same time?

I haven't played DDR, but it looks neat. I'm not sure I'd be good at it, cause I'm not a good dancer. Plus I'd probably feel dumb doing it, but I'd still give it a shot.

Yeah, DDX, don't knock it if you haven't tried it yet.

Geez, what's with all these people playing RPGs? You walk around talking to mindless people that give the most ridiculous responses "MY DAD OWNS THE FARM", "THE CAVE OF MONSTERS IS NORTH OF THE FOREST". Battles are ridiculous. You walk along and BAM! the screen goes whisy washy and the battle begins but that's the most exciting part! Your characters just stand there and you issue them commands! Going on quests and forming parties? Go on an adventure in real life, why waste your time in a imaginary world when you could save or conquer the world you live in? Just grab a bunch of friends and your weapons of choice and take on suburban hippes and cults and for monsters fight ferocious creatures such as the Flying Squirel, Crows, and if you can travel to other continents, Lions and Komodo Dragons! If your too scared, you could always write a book on things you would have liked to have done or play real role playing games with dice and real people, and DMs, manage your on statistics, and map your own world. Why, you could even create your own world far beyond the limits of a pathetic video game rpg.

I tried DDR at Nightmare's arcade last Thursday night. I sucked at it. It made me feel 15 years older. I couldn't keep up with even the slowest song on the easiest level.

After playing games that rely solely on good hand-eye coordination for 15 years, a game that requires good foot-eye coordination is going to require a lot of getting used to. Maybe I'll try again sometime, I dunno.

I will say Nightmare's pretty good at it, though.

For a minute there, I thought I was going to be the only one standing up for this sort of thing, and now I'm in the majority. Anyways, I think people who hate dance games just haven't seen it done WELL yet. They've probably only got a look at the fat kid with less rhythm than an opera singer stompin' away at it. After I saw this one kid do it, and he was WIKKID good, I coveted the stupid machine. And yeah, my life and view of music changed after buying Frequency.

ehh...Daarkseid did it first and I only copied, I guess I was being too insulting now that I think about it...I didn't mean to necessarily insult DDX if that is what happend. Sometimes I think something I will write is funny but may be insulting if not taken in a joking manner. I like RPGs. I apoligize if you took offense DDX. I did this once with TSA but I started another topic, so I didn't need to do it this way. You didn't really have to qoute the whole thing Alex...

y'know, when I read the first post here, I agreed with DarkDragoonX. Although dancing games are respective sims, I just don't see how someone wouldn't want to go to a dance or something instead. Maybe if it was really virtual and you could do breakdancing(that would take a ton of technology), but honestly people do look ridiculous when they do those dancing games with the stomping and the whatnot. If I want exercise, I'll go run a mile. If I want a fun game, I'll play something that will exercise my mind. Maybe it's just the irrational association of exercise and video games that makes me dislike dancing games, but the very idea of it seems ludicrous. I dunno...I probably just haven't played a good one recently or something, but for now dancing games don't float my boat either. I guess that my real problem with the game is that it appears(I may be wrong) that dancing games are like musical whack-a-mole, and it just doesn't interest me.

That's exactly what I'm talkin' about. You just need to see someone who knows what they're doing.

For me the point of games is to do something you couldn't in reality... immerse in a world of fantasy, or be a one-man army, things like that. It's called immersion. Hence, should those other games be called, "unimmersion?" Anyway, they don't interest me.
I don't see much point in fishing gmaes either, but maybe I'm missing something.

I don't play horse race sims, but I can understand why other people would. Taking care of a horse, training it, etc is a huge commitment. Horse race sims allows those of us who don't want to make it our life to enjoy something like that.

Train simulators? Not sure what you are talking about there. Do you mean simulating what it's like to be a passenger in a train? I agree that would be stuped. If it's running a train or managing many trains, on the other hand, that's different. Even though it is technically possible, running/managing real trains is something few of us will get to do in real life, especially if we don't want to make it our life's work. If it's managing many trains, than you must also be saying model train sets are also pointless.

As for sports sims, how else do you plan on managing an entire team in professional sports? Sure, it's technically possible in real life, but most of us have the same chance of ever getting to do that as we have of ever getting to cast magic. Same goes for racing. I love racing games. F-Zero is one of the two SNES games I like the most. Same thing with that. It's racing for the rest of us, those who don't have the money/time/will to make it our life's work. Also, both sports examples I mentioned come with risks in real life. There are no risks in playing video games. If I'm playing a racing game and crash, it's no big deal no matter how realistic the game is. If I totaly flunk at managing my team, I can just hit reset and try again. Not only that, but a manager/coach of a team in real life cannot control and be every one of the players like you can in a game.

As for dating sims, maybe you're a real atteactive ladies man who can go out and have sex with anyone you want, but many of us aren't that lucky. Sure, it's not real sex and women, but it's as close to have many lovers without risk that people like me can ever get to. Not only that, but bashing dating sims is also bashing romance novels, all forms of pornography, and even fantasizing. Even some people who have attractive lovers enjoy those things. What you are saying is like saying "Why fantasize when you can date and have sex for real?"

As for dancing things, if they only involved punching buttons on a controller, I'd agree that they were stuped. But these dancing things sound like they add things to real dancing. I don't say sims because if you are really dancing, it can hardly be called a simulation.

Point taken. It is just that this type of game seems mundane to me, and therefore I would'nt want to play it.

The type of train sim I had in mind was actually one specific arcade train sim. You drive a train, across a railroad. There's this handle for accelerating and braking, and that's it. No gaps in the track or somesuch, just plain how driving a real train would be. Which IMHO makes for a lame game.

You mention sport management sims and a futuristic racing game. I meant ordinary sport sims such as FIFA soccer, etc, where you just bash some buttons to simulate the real sport. Management sims are actually interesting in my opinion, for the reason you pointed out. I also enjoy F-Zero. Which is not a sports game.

Yeah... you're right on that one. But it's just not what I'm looking for in a game. If I want to fantasize, I'll use a photograph or look up some porn on the internet. Romance novels also don't interest me, because they are often poorly written. "True" novels with romance elements are a whole different story altogether of course.
