    OMaps (Overworld Maps)

    DMAP stands for "Dungeon Map."

But there is more to Zelda than dungeons.

    There's the overworld.

Is the overworld a DMap too?

    If so...

Should we introduce the term "OMap" for "Overworld Map?"

    If not, why?

I thought DMap stood for "Data Map".

I've heard DMap=Dungeon Map was coined in Phantom Menace's original release notes.

What is being proposed here? A renaming of DMap, or a seperate system on top of DMaps? If the latter, what would be the practical benefit of this? Would it not be a hassle to have to deal with both DMaps and OMaps?

Neither. I just think that the term "OMap" would be less confusing when talking about the overworld because it's very specific.

If you go to Etc->Help->Editor Help also, in 2.1 Fundamental Concepts we have:

DMaps (Dungeon Maps) define the 'dungeons' in the quest and their characteristics - their music, palette, subscreen map and such.

According to isdungeon in maps.cpp, it sounds like dlevels are either dungeons or caves.
