    Graphics

I have seen two custom quests--namely, 210test.qst by Warlock and another titled example_1st.qst, both of which have much nicer graphics, like Gameboy Advance and SNES quality. So how does one go about getting these in ZQuest? I'm still a newbie, but I would love to make my first game with graphics like that.

    Well, there are two options.

The first is to grab tiles and recolor them. This is a painful process and best reserved to people who are building a Tileset for others to use (or for people who are just trying to add a few graphics to fill a gap their tileset has left behind).

The other option is to use a prebuilt tileset. The thing is, tilesets are traditionally released as QST files as they involve a lot of combo data. That means it is best to pick a graphics style before you begin creating a quest, as you will be unable to change styles mid-production without serious complications.

PureZC.net is an affiliate of Armageddon Games and is the go-to resource for quest components, including graphics.

Choose a tileset carefully by reading reviews and looking at screenshots, and then download the quest file. From there, open the quest file in ZQuest (it will be unpassworded if it is an officially released tileset) and save a copy. Then, build your quest from that copy file.

Oh yeah; I meant to reply yesterday but had to leave in a hurry. :\

The other thing worth mentioning is that the larger and more complex the tileset is, the harder and more time-consuming it is to use properly, especially with overworld tiles.

I really just want to use the tileset I found in the example_1st.qst. I've played around with that, by rewording most of the dialogue, adding the "item drops from ceiling" for most items that appear after all enemies are defeated, and even making a new hidden cave where the Fire Boomerang can be obtained (and I'm thinking of doing the same for the Mirror Shield). But even with all that, it's still not mine and it boils down to the first quest with better graphics. The 210test.qst took it further by beefing up the difficulty level and adding cut-able grass and bushes, as well as the "Ai No Senshi" background music for Level 9. But the example_1st.qst is the graphic set I really want. Does that also come with the new enemy graphics?
