I always really liked Simon's Quest. Very open, not much direction, and lots to explore. A pretty good challenge as well, especially if you were tackling the game with no guidance It was a great accomplishment when I finally finished it.

The challenge in Simon's Quest was definitely more in the adventure aspect than the actual gameplay.

I'm going to tackle Gradius now, then Life Force, and finally Gradius III. I don't want to pay for Castlevania III right now, so I'll play something else to tide me over.

Life Force is kind of a weird game, if you're familiar with the arcade versions of it.

    Yes, plural.

There's Salamander (the normal one), Life Force US (every stage has stage 1's background, recolored. Also there's a story about travelling through a cyborg's body or some shit), and Life Force JP (entire game is essentially rom-hacked to make the whole thing look like the inside of a body. Also completely different story than either.)

Good luck with Gradius III. Even Konami knows they made the arcade version way too damn hard, because that's what they call the hidden difficulty in the Snes game: "Arcade".

Arcade games are meant to be hard. More deaths = more continues = more money.

That's why NES games were as hard as they were. All the game developers from that era cut their teeth designing arcade games. They stuck with what they knew.

I've actually gotten pretty far in Gradius III without cheating. I've played it a lot over the years.

Finished Paper Mario, the Thousand Year Door. I'm out of Paper Mario games, now.

Don't know what I'll play next. Maybe I'll get back to my library trek. I'm still on the Playstation.

I got pretty far in Gradius, but I got bored with it. I'll pick it up again later.

I'm currently playing The Guardian Legend, and it's pretty good so far. It's like a Gradius/Metroid/Zelda game. Check it out if you haven't already.

I also took a break tonight and beat Legendary Wings for the first time. I'm pretty happy with that. It wasn't actually all that hard. It seemed so much harder when I was a kid.

In between tossing cupcakes at cars on the freeway, I'm playing some PS1 games.

Download Lands of Serenity today! You will be knocked comatose by its sheer awesomeness.
The Titan's Quest, best played in the bathroom as the excitement can be somewhat...overwhelming.
