    The Golden Power

So I'm attempting another quest. Last time I made one, I got about halfway through it and lost all my progress due to some bad luck with my hard drive and some rather sandy conditions.

I'm starting another one and I've got backups on two computers and an external hard drive...I won't lose it this time

So my quest is called "The Golden Power" and will feature non-linear gameplay with a bit of story on the side.

Link is a young treasure hunter who has just gotten to Hyrule. He is eventually recruited into the war effort to battle Ganondorf's monster hordes. Ganondorf is searching for the Triforce and the entrance to the Golden Land. This is based off of the idea of a great "Imprisoning War" that is mentioned in ALttP's backstory.

Anyway, my main focus is non-linearity. Most of the overworld will be explorable right from the beginning, and the dungeons can be done in most any order, save a few quirks. If you finish a latter dungeon sooner rather than later, you might be able to take shortcuts in earlier dungeons when you return back to them. I also want to cut the number of Triforce Pieces to 3 or 4 rather than 8, but still retain 8 dungeons. Earlier dungeons will have areas that you will have to come back to later so you can pick up more items and power-ups using equipment that you find later in the quest.

I'm not pumping this up to be some huge deal. I'm just making a quest to make a quest. If people play it, great, if not, it won't hurt my feelings. I figured I would just get some feedback on some of these screen shots. I'll have a demo ready by next weekend with the "first" dungeon and the starting area explorable.

Here are some screen shots so far:

Don't mind the subscreen, I haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Hello Anthony, looks good so far. I have been in the first (closest to the start) dungeon and couldn't get past the second room and then up to the castle but need a bow so you have stumped me already......odd no money hearts or arrows in ony of the slashable grass, anyway I understand it is just a demo and I say go for it. I will be looking forward to the final product!!!!!

That area will be accessable later in the game. There's a bombable wall in the first room to the left. The one before the compass.

Just tried this out and explored as much as, I think, can be explored. Ran out of bombs before I got to the temple, though, so I missed that bomb room. Anyway, on to the "review":

-In the bottom left, you can bomb the stack of rocks to reveal a stairway. You can't move the blocks to go out the other door, but when you go back up the stairs, you come out the door at the bottom. When you go back in, you still can't move the blocks, and you can't get back up the stairway and you're stuck down there. You can move left into black screens and go all around the map, but I couldn't find anywhere to let you back onto the main map. Probably just a demo glitch, but just wanted to point it out for anyone that plays this.

-The hit detection seems off, especially against the skeleton type enemies.

Outside of those two things, looks cool and fun to play. I especially liked the temple exterior design. Be interested to see more.

I'm resurrecting this project. I've got some screens from just before I stopped working on it.
