    PSP

So, I'm thinking about getting a PSP, at long last, but I'm curious; Is it worth it? I know it has a decent library of games, but I've searched through them and there don't seem to be very many stand-out titles for it. There are a few games I want -really- badly for it, though, so.. Any PSP users regret getting their system?

Nope, don't regret it. The main games I was really excited to play were Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. I'd say they were worth the cost of the PSP. You could also grab that Star Ocean remake if you wanted to play an official version of the first Star Ocean game in English. Maybe there aren't alot of stand out titles for PSP but there are many solid ones.

Sold. Those were a few of the games I was looking at, plus Final Fantasy Tactics and Dissidia.. and some others as well.

I've had PSPs twice, and have sold it both times. Not because it was a bad system, but I just didn't play it enough.

It should be noted that you can now download PS1 games to it -- I had SoTN and FFTactics on it, without spending more than $15.

I love my PSP. I don't play it that often, but when I need mobile gaming, I favor it over my DS. I have all the games previously mentioned. Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops was really good. I haven't played Peace Walker yet, but I want to get it eventually. Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions was a really good port of the original, and despite the slowdown of the magic effects, I thought it was the better version. I didn't like Dissidia for the short time I played it, though. I was really looking forward to trying it out and when I borrowed it from a friend, I really couldn't get into it. If I had more of a reason to play portable games, I'm sure I'd have more games for it. I don't regret buying the system at all.

*Oh yeah! One time, I was out of town and I had been playing a PS1 game on my PS3 before I left. I set up my PSP to be able to access my PS3 over the internet. I was able to play Final Fantasy 9 from Ft. Leonard-Wood Missouri on my PSP while the game was actually running on my PS3.

The best way to use a PSP is with custom firmware or homebrew. Not necessarily with piracy, of course. I personally just use it for homebrew, which greatly expands your options when using it (there's emulators, text editors, advanced video and music players, plugins that let you do all sorts of crazy things, and so on). Try to get an early PSP-2000 used or a PSP-1000. Worst case: don't get one that has the latest firmware version installed, 6.30.

Not to say the games aren't bad, but the CFW is a great part of the bargain.

That's pretty crazy but cool. I didn't know Remote Play even worked that way. I wonder if that works better with RPGs than action games as if there would be lag time to worry about.

It was a bitch to set up though, and I haven't gotten it to work right since. I had one lucky weekend, though it was pretty sweet.

I'm pretty sure you can just move the game and save files over too. You can transfer them if you also have a PS3, or there's a Windows app.
