Yep, so it's probably something else. In the end this "big surprise" is probably going to end up being something we knew about long ago, or at least considered highly probable.

So, when are they going to give out the solution? I guess in a month or less when the next issue comes out? As I expressed before, I'm not particularly interested in speculation... but now I do want to know what this is about. Mainly I want to see if Ninty actually has a good suprise in store or if, more likely, its as DDX just described.
Has the moon been rotated ? If it wasn't supposed to look like a pokeball, why would they rotate it? And this is Nintendo Power, they wouldn't make it too hard since their reading base is lower in age than EGM or whatever. First impressions are normally correct, and my impression is its a pokeball.
But didn't Nintendo just release a new pokemon game? I doubt it's a pokeball, nintendo has never hidden a pokemon game from us.

Yeah, but it was a DS game. This could be a Wii game. A large platform Pokeman game hasn't been developed for the Wii yet. (and from what I know of the series, none of the platform games have been that good.
What the fuck is the science behind a pokeball? They don't make any sense.
What is the science behind a creature that can radically transform after fighting with lightning bolts long enough, and apparently speaks English but can only say its own name?
Edit:
If it's definately a third party game they are announcing, I am putting my money on "Moon".
I think it is a third party game, so we can get over the Pokemon trip.
In the front of the magazine, on page 8 where the editors are answering a question sent in from a reader named Russ, it says, "We know of a few big third-party titles already, but unfortunately we're sworn to secrecy. We'll be able to fill you in on one of those games next month, though--and it's a shocker!"
I think they are referring to the same thing as the moon...and I think the "shocker" diction is a hint.
Edit: Haha. Funny. I just found this here, just for reference.

Edit 2: I just now read the above post. Ignore this post. :-p
