if you receive a message from someone that says something like
"hey i have some pictures of you, are these them? www.something.com/email.emaildomain.com"

DO NOT DOWNLOAD AND/OR RUN THE FILE PLEASE !!!!

my virus scanner said it was clean, but it fucks your messenger up and sends tthe message to everyone in your contact books, it infects various system files and can not be removed, it disables system restore and deletes your system restore backups, if you do a "Windows Repair" from your Windows CD, then your windows installation will be badly affected, as soon as the GUI has loaded, your PC will reboot.

please, i must stress not to open or execute the file someone may send to you, they do not mean to send it and are most likely infected themselves, thus do not blame them and if anything try to help them.

i am in the process of reinstalling windows on my PC. i have typed this message from my dads pc.

This type of virus has been around for a while, sadly.

Basically, exercise caution and, if you're lucky enough to have it, "common sense". If a random stranger contacts you on an instant messaging program, and don't explain who they are before trying to give/link you to something, don't accept, obviously. If someone you know says something weird out of the blue like what Franpa describes, don't click or accept until they explain more personally what they're doing. I saw this sort of thing once, and the person immediately followed it with "DON'T CLICK THAT".

An antivirus scanner and firewall help, certainly, but they don't cover everything. It's still important to be careful in general.

Also, try to make sure your antivirus program does a full system scan every once in a while. I think there are some things that avoid the active scanner but show up on a full system scan. Updating frequently is good too, of course.

I remember a couple years back there was a virus/bug going around on MSN and it would automatically send it's self to the people who were signed on in your contacts list. I had to make my quick name something like, "DO NOT ACCEPT FILES FROM ME!"

no, thats the syntax used.

it was from someone i chat to, so i was not fully suspicious, and yes as i said, it sends it to everyone, including thos that are offline, you can see the messages pop up saying that the message couldnt be sent etc.

edit: i forgot to mention IT FUCKED UP TREND MICRO INTERNET SECURITY 2007 ! which i used to think was the best -.- now im not so sure xD. (no word censor?)

hmm, never noticed what the icon was all i knew was it was the "new bug" icon for the zelda classic beta sub forum.
