Lightbulb If you don't have enough magic, use downgrade quest rule

It has come to my attention that you can now assign magic to be used on any item. This can pose a problem if you put it to a weapon - say the Arrow.

    Scenario 1

So you got the Golden Arrows. So it takes Magic. So you are out of Magic, now you can't use the Golden Arrows until you get more magic power, thus you can't use Arrows. Period.

    Scenario 2

You upgraded the Magic Sword. It now is twice as strong, but only if you have enough magic. You run out of Magic, and thus, can't use your sword... In the middle of your fight with Ganon. Ganon destroys you.

    Conclusion

See? Giving the ability to use magic to items that you can't use downgraded forms of can be risky in a quest.

    Quest rule

If Item allows, use a downgraded version of the weapon you have if your out of magic.

This rule would enable you to play through the above scenarios without any problems.

    Thoughts?

This sounds interesting, but the ability to have multiple of the same item class in your inventory would seem to be a superior alternative to this. After all, I would argue that being forced to use magic to swing your sword is something you might not want to do even if you still have magic left.

I think it was my idea to implement the check box for all items to use magic. But come on, the Gold arrows, and master sword are the strongest (built in) items in the game. Wouldn't it make sense for them to require magic, as they are.... magical?

Only if you don't *have* to use them, and would have another choice. o_o

Touche, but as always, it's up to the quest maker, so I still think it's better to have seemingly seldom used options that don't directly cause an inconvenience, than to remove them and have some quest makers inconvenienced.

I think that really, keeping enough magic so you don't run out is as much a strategic decision as making sure you go into battle with enough hearts. If you don't want to run that risk, don't make the items cost magic.

This is exactly the point of why I'm suggesting this. Magic is a feature that is seldom used to its full extent in quests, because you have a lot of items that don't require it. I wanted to step things up to make a more interesting quest.

Think of it this way - In Ocarina of Time, if you set the Light Arrows to your C-button. You don't have enough magic, thus you fire only a regular arrow. THIS is what I'm meaning to suggest, really.

And Why not make a sword that also uses Magic? It's one of those interesting things that can make a quest more exciting, it can make you think... Strategy... there are plenty of quests out there, but there aren't as many that make you think... that make you plan. This is one of those suggestions that, during the process of the game, can make you a winner or a loser. :googly:

If this is implemented, it was my intention to give Link the Light Force during the second part of the Final Battle(as your Magic is being drained by the evil which you fight)
