generally, if you go to a quiet area (has no music playing), you should be able to listen to them. i might be wrong, but that's always how i did it when i played a few quests a while ago.

you must be in an area that has no music playing... caves, shops, etc..... or load a quest then quit it and then you can listen to the music from that quest at the quest selection screen.

Yup, no music playing. The easiest place to listen to a MIDI is when you are warping between two places with different music, like when you exit a house to go back to the overworld.
