You couldn't learn everything, do everything, see everything. You would miss tons, your brain can only hold a limited amount of information, in a few million or billion years you would completely forget who you were or any friends or family. You would probably have taken multiple identities, but not at the same time, you would gradually turn into a completely different person. Living forever with the capacities we have now is a recipe for madness.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind living for a few thousand years, possibly a hundred thousand. In the end though, there are three options and none really scare me. You either go to heaven or there is nothing and you won't care, can't care, etc... It will be like before you were born, you will become nothing. Of course you could go to hell but I assume you'd have to live a really bad life to do that.

I would never want to be immortal. Sure it's great to live and see what advances may or may not happen in the next 1000 years or so, but you can never experience true love. Once that true love goes, then what are you left with? A lonely immortal human being......
