    PS1 > PS2 question

is there any way to save data from PS1 games on your PS2 with your PS2 memory card? or does the old PS1 card work on the PS2? I just got FF Origions, and I can't save with my PS2 memory card...

Yeah, PS2 cards only save PS2 game data. However, since nearly everything about the PS2 is backwards compatible with PSX, this includes PSX memory cards as well. They will work, and are still required to save PSX game data.

ok, thanks Daark, I'm gonna run down tomorrow and get a PS1 memory card, I'm not gonna go through an hour's worth of gameplay for nothing again! (I played even though I knew I couldn't save, just to see what it was like)

You CAN copy PS memory card data onto a PS2 memory card. Then, when you want to use those saved games again, just copy them back onto a PS memory card. I have a single PS2 memory card devoted to holding all of my saved PS games, which I then load onto my lone PS memory card when I need them. It saves money, and it makes it easier to find the data I need (since I don't have to search through a pile of a dozen damn memory cards anymore).

One thing to keep in mind about PSX<->PS2 compatability: As Daark said, nearly everything works between them. The MultiTap, however, does not. I do not know why this is, but I've read that the PS2 MultiTap only works with the PS2, and the PSX version only works with the PSX.

And if you want more storage for your PSX games, you can buy a memory card device for PC. I have a DexDrive, and it works very well (when it's plugged in that is, it claims it will work without being plugged in, but I've found getting it to work without being plugged in is like trying to use your hands to push a semi-truck with its parking brake on).

Go to Blockbuster video. That's the cheapest place I've found to buy a PS1 memory card :)
