Like most zquesters, I don't use screen 80 for caves and buildings; I use a separate map with its own DMap. The DMap type is "cave", and the room types that I've used so far (that work) are "shop", "secret item", and "pay for info." But the rooms "potion shop" and "more bombs" don't work. Is this a limitation of cave DMaps, or did I not set something correctly?

More bombs and potion shops do work, but I really don't know why they aren't for you, try them with their own dmaps, with level numbers, and try the dungeon dmap if cave won't work for you.
It's my guess though you left off the level number.

I remembered the level number...caves are 10, and buildings are 11.
Anyway, I changed the "Caves" Dmap from cave to dungeon, and the potion shop worked, but the more bombs didn't. It's probably because I'm not using a guy (there's a person on layer 1 instead), so I'll figure it out. Thanks.

yea, you have to use a guy, just remove one from the tiles, like ama, and use her from then on.
