As for the second one, I just put in my application today. (Finally gathered up the necessary recommendation letters.) If all goes well, I'll get an interview in February (I hope)..., and if I pass that, I get to be back in Japan in August.
Cross your fingers for me...I think I have a strong application, but I'm at the point of just waiting to hear from them right now.

I'll hear whether I get an interview or not in January. Then the interviews happen in February, and a final decision happens around March or April. If I'm accepted, I end up in Japan at the beginning of next August.
I would be teaching at a middle or high school somewhere in Japan. You can make a placement request, but it's not guaranteed. Since I've lived in Japan before, and I was in a big city then, I've requested a somewhat more rural placement this time. (I'd like to contrast the more rural setting with the urban one I saw before.) I do, however, hope to be near where I was before (Nagoya) so that I can visit friends whom I met there.
