Hope someone can help me.
I'm having a good time with this quest.....but I'm stuck!
I'm in level 4...but I don't have boots or hookshot yet.....can't get
past the hot sand or water....did I miss these items in level 1-3?
Desperately wanting to continue....please!

Boots are in level 3, so head back to find it. They're in the lower right most room on the map in level 3. The hookshot IS in level 4, but requires the Cross to see the enemies that guard all the rooms to the hookshot.

I've got the cross aleady so I'll just drag myself back to level 3
and get those boots (made for walkin')
Yeah, those boots are back in Level 3.
So Prince modified it so you could finish the Level without them...hmm...

I was mistaken......I completed level 1-2, got perplexed in level 3
so decided to go exploring and found level 4 and started to work in there. I went back to 3...got unperplexed and got the boots and finished that level...headed back to 4 in my spanking new boots and got the hookshot and finished level 4..I found the waterfall and now I'm at level 5.......purr!
well you can complete any level with harmful damage combos as long as you have enough hearts or a enemy hits you and you use your temporary invincibility to cross the sand quickly. :)
