hey all...looking to edit my sprites. all i got now is the stupid paint program that comes with windows. anyone know a good paint program that keeps fairly consistent when changing from say 256 bit graphics to 8 bit? trying to make the most out of my pallettes and keep my universe fairly sensible here...
(oh...did i mention i'm looking for something free? some sort of shareware program that someone might know of???)

You can try the Paint Shop Pro 7 demo at http://www.jasc.com and then just ignore the demo part (I don't think it actually stops you from using it after a month).
