How many magic containers are there before you're at 100%?

Only one upgrade. This makes the items use half their normal amount of magic. But, if you mean magic containers, then you can get up to (I believe) 9 magic containers.
Sometimes, these things happen in life. And when they do, you've only got three choices...

Eight would make sense to me as there are 32 total quantities of magic. Eight containers with four magic in each would make sense.

"Legally", it's 8. You can use Quest -> Init Data to start off with 9, but picking up containers won't increase the meter past 8, and large magic jars will only fill 8 blocks of the meter...
