Don't worry, they still exist. They've just been made opt-in.
In order to view and post in them, Open your usergroup manager and join the "GB/Veldt" group. Obviously, admins and global mods are exempt from this requirement.

Hmmm nothing shows up on the list for me, though it might be my old computer and browser...EDIT I got it woked by using browsr on tv
I agree with this, otherwise it floods the "latest replies" que towards posts most wouldn't care about.
Its my fault the Veldt is like this now! I was too naughty!
