19.2 Kilometers from Popular Opinion [Round 1: Colors]

Inspired by the 'Everybody Votes' channel, and its upper bound on distance from popular opinion (which, as far as I can tell, is 19.2 km), we're going to play a game about picking the least likely choice to win.

Here's how it works:

1.) Put this somewhere in your signature:
Distance from Popular Opinion: 0 m

2.) Pick the poll option in this thread that you think is LEAST likely to have the most votes

3.) Post your reasoning behind your decision. It doesn't have to be logical. In fact, if it's funny it's all the better.

4.) When the week is up and the round has ended, count how many votes were in the poll options you DIDN'T pick. Increase your distance from popular opinion by that amount.

5.) Participate each week to increase your distance.

6.) [OPTIONAL] Create your own rounds of the game with your own poll options. Make sure you only allow a choice between 2 to 4 options.



This round is about primary colors, specifically those we all love from internet hexadecimal. Red, Green, and Blue.


I think Green will be the one to lose, mainly because it is the source of most color-blind issues.

If we vote for the one we think is least likely to have the most votes won't that give it the most votes? And could you elaborate on the 19.2 thing again?

Or are you supposed to vote for your favorite color of the three and then POST which one you think will be least popular? That wouldn't make sense because you could see the results...hmmm, I'm confused.

I love Everybody Votes...this should be fun.

Okay, I'll explain.

On the Everybody Votes Channel on the Wii, I intentionally vote for the option I think will be LESS likely to win. When the results are tallied, if I am correct, my distance from popular opinion increases.
I did this so many times that I reached a distance of 19.2 kilometers. After four more votes (including two world-wide votes, which have a bigger impact), my distance would not get any larger. For this reason, I believe 19.2 kilometers is the highest the distance can record.


For the game, just like in the channel, you must lie and vote for the option you think will lose. Since you can't see the results until AFTER you've voted (unless you're cheating... you cheater), you won't know what other people think until you've made your pick. If your opinion matches others, you won't be able to move as far.

Alternatively, you could just vote for your favorite and see how many people disagree with you. The result is still the same; you move a number of meters equal to the categories that voted against you.

I guess that makes sense. I wonder if a multiple choice poll would work better? (Because then you'd be getting favorites too, which helps us get to know each other better.)

Totally up to you though.

But, does that mean we should have two meters for distance? Your true opinion and your predicted opinion?

Sounds perfect. Meter for how similar you are to everybody, meter for how different...or just one...or...I dunno, man, I'm going to get drunk now. Lol.

Okay, I'll think about a solution and it will go into effect starting next round.
