Currently it seems the search option only lets you find posts you've made, not threads you've created. I'd like to see the feature set extended to include the ability to search for threads created by a user.

Actually it works the opposite of how you describe. If I put 'Glenn the Great' in the user name field it returns just the threads I've started, not my posts in other peoples' threads.
Hmm okay, it's just the additional options says "Find posts".
Yeah, that checkbox doesn't seem to make any difference in the results I get.
It would be nice if we could search by Threads or by Posts.
I'll make a note of this for an Admin to take a look at when he has time.
After doing a search myself, I can't replicate the problem. I searched for glenn the great(which automatically took out the) and "glenn the great" and it brought up every thread he had responded in. Probably irrelevant, but I'm using the Morbid Dark theme and clicking the search input box in the top right and hitting enter--not going advanced.
Edit: I should mention I also did this on a test account as a regular member and it worked fine.
I was searching on User Name from the Advanced Search page. In case it matters, my theme is Default White.
Putting my name into the search input box like you did gives me a ton of results (about 400 posts), but these are not mine; rather they are posts where someone has mentioned me (I'm a pretty popular guy as it turns out).
These are also the same results I get when I do a keyword search on my name from the Advanced page, so I think the search box is just a shortcut to the Advanced keyword search.
I haven't tried punching in user in the Advanced Search but I have used the "find posts by this user" in profiles and it seems to function correctly. The other day I looked a a bunch of my old posts for shits and giggles and it brought up both threads I started and ones I replied to. I also used it to see when @Shadowblazer last posted when he made that phony comeback; worked fine then also.
I feel a strange mixture of pride and horror when I read my posts from 10 years ago.
At one point my account was deleted in a fit of rage by one of the staff members, it might have been Breaker. I had to re-register and that's why my join date says 2009 instead of October 2000.
My old posts don't come up in search (by username), but the 3 threads I've started on my new account do. The 100 or so other posts don't.
Only 3 topics that I've started on this account. I'm one of those posters that is better at responding to what others have said than coming up with things of my own.
I have no desire to see my old posts because I was a stupid ass.
And Shadowblazer, WTF man? Do you have some kind of weird script that sends you an e-mail whenever someone mentions you? Or do you have a soul-tube made out of dead bunny hearts that connects your brain to the internet and constantly sniffs the ethereal planes for AGN posts that mention you? You always pop up whenever someone mentions your name. I'm afraid that if I go into the bathroom, turn the lights off, and say your name three times that you'll appear behind me and your hands will be replaced with hooks.
Oh god... the horror...
So just mentioning a users name will send that user an email? Is it case sensitive?
If it supposed to work like that... Why haven't I ever gotten a email from here?
Working fine for me. Maybe it got caught in your spam?
Not case sensitive, but spaces matter. Have to put @ in front of the name. Also, after creating a new thread, at the top you can tag relevant users as well. And quotes should be giving you notifications also.
If you need further information on how to use it, go here.
@Ventus
There's a test message for you.
Maybe your e-mail options are changed.
Yep... Nothing anywhere in my Gmail. Maybe there's something wrong with my settings?
Speaking of e-mails: How do I disable the automatic "you've been quoted" and similar automatic e-mails> >_< ...I get those like every day.
Unfortunately, unless you pay for the pro version of the hack, you can only disable it globally. I took a poll and most users said they wanted the emails.
The only solution I've found is to not open them so it groups them together pretty well. You could also call it spam I suppose. Maybe disable email from Admins.
I just started getting these emails within the past day or so. I'm disabling email from Admins and going to see what happens.
Okay I'm now getting emails about it. I just changed my email and that seemed to fix the problem :) Yay now my inbox can be spammed by this place.
If your email client supports it you can have it automatically sort new emails from this forum in to a specific folder. It's what I've been doing with regards to forum notifications from various forums, dumping them in to a Forum folder.
You still get the notification & it doesn't clutter your Inbox.
