Hi.
I'm 90% it's a Poké Ball.
I am pretty sure it's a poke ball.
It's not a Pokeball...

Look familiar?
So yes, the moon looks like that. Nintendo did not alter the image at all (other than colorizing it), despite what they claim.
The announcement is either:
-Harvest Moon (as someone has pointed out elsewhere, that *is* a Harvest Moon)
-Moon, the DS game
-Earthbound (possibly the VC announcement since it was just rated by the ESRB)

I see no resemblance... [/sarcasm]
Well, then there must be a subtle edit to the red moon. I'll study it.
It's Harvest Moon or the new Disgaea game. Mystery solved.
I hope it's Disgaea. I remember reading they were doing one for the DS. (Whether if it was fake or not, I'm not sure, so don't quote me on that.)
Akai Tsuki FTW!
A new legen of zelda maybe, am i the only one that sees people in the moon
I really see no difference in the two moons.
I wouldn't say so. ;)
I still say they recolored it so it would look more like a Poke Ball. Or maybe it's the sequal to Earthbound, called Moonbound. :D
Seriously that looks about as much like a poke ball as a banana looks like a gun. A poke ball and the moon have this giant list of things in common:
- Both are round
Poke balls are made of three colors: red (the blood of angry men), black (the dark of ages past), and white (it's not part of the song). The top half of the poke ball is red. The bottom is white. The middle is black. There's a big, white circle centered on the black equator that represents the button a trainer pushes. This moon is red and dark red. It has no equator. There's no division of colors. There's no big white circle.
If it's supposed to be a big surprise and Nintendo's really excited about it, it's not a game that's been announced yet and it is likely a first party game. Most of the games you guys are talking about are already either confirmed or backed by very reliable rumors. The most likely titles I've seen us discuss are FF IV, Harvest Moon, or Earthbound, but neither of those makes sense. FF IV had a red moon in its plot, but from what I gather its arrival is all-but-guaranteed so I can't see what kind of surprise it would be. Harvest Moon is third-party and IMO doesn't seem to sell in spectacular numbers. Earthbound had nothing to do with the moon really. That leaves me in the dark, and I'm curious but if I wait patiently I'll get my answer.
i doubt its earthbound, a new pokemon just came out for the ds, Disgaea was already announced, and in the wii fit article Steve Thomason said he was distracted by the top secret wii game thats gonna be in next months issue(look at day 7). Castlevania, a new dragon quest maybe. http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/351/shirenwiirg7.jpg look at this
You forget, this is Nintendo Power. I honestly don't expect it to be a big deal. I mean, have they ever actually announced something we didn't know about?

But yes, it's not Pokemon. How anyone can think that is beyond me.
If they actually released Mother on the VC, that would be pretty damn fantastic.

There's no denying a slight resemblance. But, considering that the red moon and the normal moon are identical (minus the shading), I now doubt that the moon is supposed to look like a Poké Ball.
Right, as I pointed out, there's these similarities:Honestly, the poke ball looks quite a bit more like the Death Star than it does the moon.
- Both are round
Thats ironic, because I was just going to say that the moon looks more like the Death Star than a Pokeball.
Right, and the moon has a faint line running around it where I placed it on the Poké Ball, and the blemish (crater? pole?) on the moon is on that line much like the button on a Poké Ball.
I dunno, the more I looked at it a few days ago, the more it looked like a Poké Ball. The more I think about it, the less it seems to be a Poké Ball.
The O in the Mother logo is Earth, not the moon, though, isn't it?
Yep, so it's probably something else. In the end this "big surprise" is probably going to end up being something we knew about long ago, or at least considered highly probable.
So, when are they going to give out the solution? I guess in a month or less when the next issue comes out? As I expressed before, I'm not particularly interested in speculation... but now I do want to know what this is about. Mainly I want to see if Ninty actually has a good suprise in store or if, more likely, its as DDX just described.
Has the moon been rotated ? If it wasn't supposed to look like a pokeball, why would they rotate it? And this is Nintendo Power, they wouldn't make it too hard since their reading base is lower in age than EGM or whatever. First impressions are normally correct, and my impression is its a pokeball.
But didn't Nintendo just release a new pokemon game? I doubt it's a pokeball, nintendo has never hidden a pokemon game from us.
Yeah, but it was a DS game. This could be a Wii game. A large platform Pokeman game hasn't been developed for the Wii yet. (and from what I know of the series, none of the platform games have been that good.
Because a Pokeball is also a sphere that can be rotated:
http://www.nintendo.com.au/ngmconten...e/Pokeball.jpg http://media.strategywiki.org/images/4/4c/Pokeball.png http://www.relaxaejoga.com/wp-conten...0/pokeball.gif
*gasp*! Three pictures that are not rotated the same way as that moon picture!
What the fuck is the science behind a pokeball? They don't make any sense.
What is the science behind a creature that can radically transform after fighting with lightning bolts long enough, and apparently speaks English but can only say its own name?

If it's definately a third party game they are announcing, I am putting my money on "Moon".
I think it is a third party game, so we can get over the Pokemon trip.
In the front of the magazine, on page 8 where the editors are answering a question sent in from a reader named Russ, it says, "We know of a few big third-party titles already, but unfortunately we're sworn to secrecy. We'll be able to fill you in on one of those games next month, though--and it's a shocker!"
I think they are referring to the same thing as the moon...and I think the "shocker" diction is a hint.
Edit: Haha. Funny. I just found this here, just for reference.

Edit 2: I just now read the above post. Ignore this post. :-p
I just want to make a quick comment on the above post. I just learned that I am not the only person alive named Russ. :)
I don't think it will be that much of a shocker. I've not seen anything come from Nintendo in a while that was considered shocking. To be shocking, it would have to be a world exclusive look at something in their magazine only, and be something that would actually be intesting. I'm not sure if I would care. But, just out of curiousity, if the editors are sworn to secrecy, then why would some random internet site be able to mention it? So it sounds more likely its a game that hasn't actually been shown off yet.
Edit:
I don't get the whole moon thing. Its a picture of the moon. Big deal. The only thing I can think of that would be a "clue" is the fact that the moon is red, and the reasons the moon will appear red. The atmosphere filters the blue from the sunlight cause things to look reddish, mostly happening during a lunar eclipse, like its seen in this blog. I think smoke from wildfires can also cause the moon to appear red. And the red moon has something to do with the apocolypse too I think. If the game has anything to do with those, I wouldn't be surprised. So I done searches for games that involved those, like Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, but even that I'm not sure, since its been revealed already. The new Castlevania game is called "Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia", does that have anything to do with moons?
I don't think THAT young though, considering I've seen some mild profanity used in Nintendo Power, and several T rated ads, then the majority has to be over 13.
I am starting to think it is Castlevania also.
It is not Harvest Moon. A few pages later in Nintendo Power it titles the Harvest Moon Wii game...

You know, the more I think of this, it will probably be a new series. Hopefully, one that actually will be a good FPS, or perhaps a RTS. But knowing Nintendo, it's probably got some original gameplay mechanic everyone's excited about. And if it's third-party, well, that can open up a large can of worms--some obviously fit the moon photo, while others may come out of nowhere.
Looking around on the other interwebs, the prevailing theory seems to be that it will be an announcement for Disgaea: Prince of the Demon World and the Red Moon. Considering that it is a picture of a red moon, that sounds pretty likely.
Remember that last time they did this it was the announcement for Nights, which had already been rumored online. So the fact that some people already know about it doesn't necessarily mean it isn't it.
Knowing Nintendo, it will probably be something dumb. For all we know, it could be Mario Galaxy 2. A picture of the moon recolored to be red is just to simple to get anything out of.
project hammer
Maybe they are adding a new disaster to Disaster: Day of Crisis:

:D
http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=1096, look its a 3rd party game that nintendo was hinting about not first party
2 things.
First of all, that letter does not 100% confirm that the title in the back is third party.
Second of all, have you even read this thread?
Edit: If I had a guess, I would say we are going to finally know the answer come Friday.
- IGN will have 1 exclusive, Friday - Craig: “Pretty big,” unannounced - Wii & DS game, based off distinct property - video, screenshots
