Link to Tortuga released
Tom feels I've used some of his wav sounds in my sfx.dat files, and since I have 100's of wavs and really don't know where they all came from I told him I would replace those sounds in my sfx.dats
New Link to Tortuga sound file is HERE
Link to Tortuga released.
Returning from a diplomatic mission, Princess Zelda's ship is Swashbuckled by pirates and she is captured and taken to the pirate stronghold know as Tortuga Island.
Held for a ransom of eight blue pearls, it's up to Link to pay the ransom in order get her back.

Link to Tortuga now on AGN's Quest database
Game play notes;
*Link to Tortuga is designed to be played on the new 2.10 version of Zelda Classic.
*Overworld (spacebar) map has been turned off due to a serious bug in the 2.10 that causes the map to trigger secrets on layers of screens the map is used on.
*You should never have to buy a key, they're there, you just have to find them.
Release notes;
Special Thanks to:
Miguel, Elise, Iriss, Joe, David Ballard Jr., and Shoelace for beta testing this quest.
Sprites of Joe and the Rabbit are from *b*'s Sun Tower tileset, thanks goes to him for releasing those.
Thanks goes to DN and fatcatfan for their hard work in releasing the new 2.10 Zelda Classic program, which this quest is designed to be played on.
*Using a cheat program with "no walls" will cause you grief, I suggest against it, there are tons of hidden floor triggers.
*please report any bugs, bugs found while using a cheat program please do NOT report, as they are probably your fault anyway.
Forgot to mention, each time you beat a level the town and all it's building interiors change, as do the ships.
You need to go back to town between each level or you'll miss items and information.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
 Thank you ever so much for this new Quest of yours.
I liked your previous work. Just wanted to let you know.
See you soon for tips and clues.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
My only problem would be the absence of an Overworld map. I've waited long to be able to use it... I hope the bug will be fixed soon.
Will download and play.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
Know how you feel Carrot Red I also love the overworld map
but this bug really does strange things with the quest on this moment
all kind off things disappeared when you look at your map and go back to the screen
But the Quest is great even without it ;)

Re: Link to Tortuga released
Yep, it disappointed me having to turn the map off, but it caused some serious problems.
there is a map in the game, press right on the start screen, and there is a map in the screenshot preview above.
It really isn't a complex overworld, once you get the hookshot from level 1 you can go most places.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
I'll quote Paris Hilton now "That's Hot". I'm definantly going to download this game.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Gotta try this one! BTW Freedom, could I talk you into submitting Link to Tortuga to the QDB?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
JayeM,
You bet, I've just held off because to submit them you have to zip all three files together, and that takes me forever to upload, I've got dial-up.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
It doesn't have to be uploaded, Freedom, you just link to it.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
ok I submitted it all, I just added the links to the mp3 and the sfx.dat down at the bottom.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Help - where is the hook shot - I've searched all over and have absolutely no clue where it could be. I have sent a pm to Freedom but I was also wondering if anyone else out there could help.
Thanks
Dianne

It's in dungeon one. What was the last thing you did in the game?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Found dungeon one - I think - but can't get past spikes without the hook shot. I believe I've been everywhere I can go. Got the medicine, arrow and shield. Did the duckhunt, found the blue candle and fixed the trees, etc., etc.

There are three entrances to Dungeon 1. In one you need the hookshot to advance, in another you can see the hookshot, and the third allows you to reach it. The man in the room next to the hookshot gives you a big hint.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
I am asking for help to find the other 2 dungeon entrances, please.
-
There's one in a huge tree that's hard to miss, another hidden in a small tree that is blocked by a guy who wants a skultulla (I don't remember where it is), and another huge tree that can't be reached unless you set a bush on the adjacent screen on fire. It looks really different from all the others, you can't miss it. I think.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Diannew if you leave the dungeon go to the left down corner passage on your screen
and find the other entrances ;)
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Thanks Kairyu - I'll keep on plugging and try your suggestions.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
Dianne,
I sent you a reply to your PM that should get you there.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
Thanks to all who helped me. I finally found all entrances to level 1 - now all I have to do is figure out how to get around in there.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
I'm also stuck in the same place as diannew. I've found all 3 entrances to level 1, but I can't figure out how to get the hookshot. I'm being held up by the switch past the hermit's secret entrance. I've tried everything in my arsenal, but can't trigger the switch. Probably need the hookshot, but how?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
you need to hit that orb with your sword
for the hookshot go to another entrance and look behind the light ;)
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Ok, thanks for the help. Now I have progressed most of the way through the first level, but now I cant get to the boss or the bottle, can't cross the water on both occasions. I believe I have searched the dungeon thoroughly, but cant find the item I need. Did I miss something in the overworld?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
you missed the ladder in level 1
look at your map you missed a room on the left
try a little headbanging :)
and throw a little boomer at statues ;)
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
Okay, okay, I give up - please, where is a bomb upgrade to 6 or more bombs so I can kill the level 1 boss.
Thanks

Thanks for the help, elise. I found the items i missed but now I have another question. Do dodongos eat super bombs?
Also in my wanderings i found multiple skulltullas, am I wasting them if keep finding them without having a use for them?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
yes, you should never pick skulltulas up if you have one already, otherwise you may end up having to buy them.
Yes super bombs work with dodongos too.

Re: Link to Tortuga released
1. I think I found a bug or something. When I go to the swamp, all of the midis get messed up but the swamp doesn't. I have to close the game to fix it.
2. I need a clue for getting to level 2.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
1. it's a 2.10 bug you can play on and by entering another area the music will get back to normal again
2. Level 2 is in the swamp
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
I figured the swamp but how do you get to the swamp. I found the bog but not the swamp. Directions would be appreciated.
Dianne :odd:

Re: Link to Tortuga released
The swamp is from the city to the shipping area ( Harbour) and down

1.Do you mean entering a dungeon because it messes up the midis in all of the areas. I didn't try going into a dungeon yet.
2. Those pirates said it was in the swamp so I went there and don't know where to go there. That's also the place where the midis get messed up... :odd:
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
DN said Midi problems are due to Allegro, nothing I can do about that.
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
There are three entrances into the level so just enter one
you can walk through the lighter blue parts in the water :)
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
I'm in the swamp going to level-2 -- great game by the way -- is there anywhere to get the blue tunic or a sword upgrade -- very tough getting thru
thanks

Never mind -- I found the whitblade and the magic sword ;-) -- and, the power bracelet - back to level 2
sorry for the double post
Where can I find the bow?
-
Re: Link to Tortuga released
It's on the right side of level 2, just walking not rafting. You'll need one key to open another door to set a switch for passage but that's all and since you have the white sword I'm sure that you can talk that nice Patra into lending it to you

Re: Link to Tortuga released
I had that switch set for awhile now (the crystal one) -- but I can find no room where I can walk and get the bow -- and I have left every dock -- trying to go in different directions -- I'm baffled.
thanks anyways -- maybe time to start a new game. :(

Re: Link to Tortuga released
maybe it's time for using the old walkthrough wall trick on the right from that orb room , leave it and go to the right kill the (dis) like like and do some old fashion headbanging ;)
