Map Maker 192b183+
You may be wondering what the deal is, when a b183 Zquest hasn't been made available. Simply put, there was a small but annoying bug with mm192b182 which would prevent some screens from being rendered. This release resolves that problem. It is still compatible with b182 QSUs, as well as anything after, for now.
Enjoy!
New around here and confused as to what mapmaker is? Need some help figuring out how to use it? Take a look at Freedom's Mapmaker Tutorial.

It doesn't work for me! I'm on 1.92 182 and it doen't work it keeps on saying there was an error and will now close...
-
Yay. Now it finally works for me. Maybe I should start my quest up again...now that I can give out maps
-
great job, as always fatcat!
EDIT: Hmmm, it seems that every QSU I export from beta 183, always seems to crash the mapmaker whenever I try and open it.
-
to my belief, the map maker for 180 still works all of the way up through 184, if its still available outside of the beta testers. I haven't tried this new one, but i hear its truly buggy.
-
How do you get the map maker to work?
I opened the program and saw an unencoded quest extension.
-
You open it, and click open. Once you do that, you select a QSU from a folder, then click okay. The grids are rendered, then you select the dmap/map that you want to take a shot of, then select generate.
Then a very large bmp is placed into the folder that you specify.
-
Okay it works now.
Thanks for the help.

* plith decides to make a decision.
Topic Pinned. Mapmaker is good for you.

To FatCatFan, is the attatchment a full version? i hope so, because none of the versions work at home. what i do is download at school, burn the copies i want to CD, and take them home and upload them on a 1998 Gateway 200 running Win ME. could it be my PC, or the transport? :annoyed:
-
*EDIT* my mistake. i thought the attatchment was a quest editor....What i need is the latest windows version of both the editor and player and what it takes to run them. i tried 190 but it didnt work...
-
So, go check the thread with links to b182. That's got the latest Zquest...I can't find anybody who's giving out the b183 player anymore...it fixes a lot of issues with the b182 player, and plays b182 quests just fine.
Basically, b182 is good for bug testing, because it has lots of de-bugging keys turned on, but for really playing you'll want the b183 player. I'll make a topic, and hopefully somebody will put up a copy for download.
-
Map Maker only exports a blank image! Why?!?
-
You must be using it wrong.
after opening it, set your layers, click next to the "map" and scroll up and down until you see the map you want to make a copy of, then name it and hit generate.

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Do we have a 187 map maker yet?

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
C-dawg: export all of the pieces of your quest, then import them into b183. Use the mapmaker. Everybody's happy.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Pieces, eh? So I just have to export the maps I want instead of the whole quest file. I can handle that.

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Not yet. Contacting DN to get new export format info... but I lost the mapmaker source code almost a year ago, so I have to start from scratch this time.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Okay, you mentioned starting from scratch; that's what I'm trying to do, but I don't know how (if you haven't guessed I'm a newbie and don't know how to do anything) I can open, but not generate, and I can't open anything, it only gives me the option to do so. My guess is that I have to download something, but what?
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
All mapmaker does is create a bitmap image of the quest you have already designed using ZQuest, the Zelda Classic Custom Quest Editor. Mapmaker wants a QSU file that you can generate with ZQuest by choosing "Export -> Unencoded Quest" from the "File" menu.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
But I want something to create quests because I don't know how to change the grafic type (I want pure) for the quest which I want to make.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
okay, then you need to get the pure tileset from PureZC or wherever, and get it into your quest with the Import functions in the file menu of ZQuest. If you have more trouble in that line, post some questions in this forum
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Where can I get the "PureZC"?
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
it's not 'the' PureZC, it's just PureZC, a website. here are all the copies and versions of the Pure tileset to date
Pure Tileset

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Actually, the tile set I downloaded is saved as a quest, so I had to open it as a quest then save my quest in a different name

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Do you need help or something? You sort of sound lost.

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
I threw a page together explaining how to use the mapmaker, find it here

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Oh, is great application. It run perfectly. But can I create the map with the secrect rooms openned?
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Secret rooms? If, for example, you mean rooms such as in the original quest that don't appear on the map, like in the "eye" of Level 7, then yes, they can be turned on. You only need to click the square on the map which corresponds to the room to have it appear in the output.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
no,no,no. Sorry for the confussion.
i sais the under and secret combo, like a stair under a rock or a cave under a tree.
Istead of see the tree o rock, see the stari or cave enter.
I would like create the overword map with the secrets in visible mode.
somethig like as when in zquest-w push tools-flags and you moves the arrow keys

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
No, I never completed that feature, even though a checkbox for it is present. Sorry.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Ok, thanks, i will wait this feature.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
Doesn't work for me at all. I clicked it maybe 20 times, but every single time I get the message "zip file is invalid or corrupted"
Mucho obnoxious.
-
Re: Map Maker 192b183+
delete it and download another, I have one on my page, top link in my sig, scroll down to the mapmaker tutorial.

Re: Map Maker 192b183+
fatcatfan,
I just switched over to using the 193Alpha5 to work on my quest, and bug test the Alpha in the process, and realized I've now lost my mapmaker :(
Any plans for a new mapmaker in the near future?
