Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who wish to submit midis, tracker files, sprites, and other forms of helpful graphics or media to NeoFirst, please post in this thread with the content already in hand for me to review and assign as necessary. If your content is used, you will be credited in this post within this thread. The final list of credits will be used within NeoFirst's own credits.
Remember, there's no time like the present to start gathering resources and share them with the community. :) You never know what NeoFirst might need until it's out there for people to see. ;)
Remember, if you've contributed something but don't see your name or tiles here, I urge you to post in this thread with the materials as well!. It's far easier to manage this thread when everything is all bundled together in one thread.
Current Credits List:
Tiles:
Music:
- Overture - Overworld Midi by Saffith
- Autumnal - Potential Town Midi - Saffith
- (A bunch of assorted midis - to be sorted a little bit later) - Saffith
- Mystic Forest -Rexlaninetales
- Something, to be named later. - Sir_Johnamus
- Forest Temple - Mighty Darknut
- (etc...)
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Figured I'd take a stab at an overworld theme. Turned out pretty well, I think.
I wonder, though, should I turn the snare drums down a bit? They tend to be a little loud in Creative's default soundfonts, which I expect most people will be using.
overture.mid
(Edit: updated the song a little)

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Saffith, I'm going to look for all of your other works and will try to post them here. I have to say, I really am in love with your style of midicraft. So, ... BRB. o.o'
Okay. ...
Music From Saffith:
Forest Temple Candidate 1
Autumnal - Potential Town Midi Candidate.
Ophidian - The area around the twisted Light Temple, OR, the Evil Light Temple. I'd rather keep the area outside of it for a midi of nothing but a gust of wind and the sounds of "silence." (For Dramatic effect.)
Auspice - This midi sounds exactly like the first one linked to. ._o' Only it's considerably larger in filesize. :p
Incidental - Hm. This may cover that dramatic scene I mentioned two midi-descriptions earlier. Possibly. If it could be edited to be mostly wind, with the occasional tone of Incidental interrupting the wind, then going back to the wind, looping around, etc, ... it'd be perfect. :D

Well, it's the finished version. The first was just checking.
It doesn't sound exactly the same, except for the very beginning, does it? If it does, something's wrong.

You'd definitely want to do that as an MP3 or Ogg. Wind isn't a GM instrument, so a MIDI version would work on very few systems.

It'd be small though, right? What about an SPC or tracker file? It should be less than 100 KB in any case. I mean, it'll be included by default with ZC, (Or next to it or something as a seperate download, perhaps.) so if it can be downloaded at the same time, it'd be nice. This alone could be the "enhanced music" for it at minimum, so it would work that way. Thanks. :)

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Took a while to find what seemed like a suitable public domain wind sound. There were gustier ones, though, if that's more what you had in mind.
Anyway, I tried it with and without the strings...
wind.ogg
wind_and_strings.ogg
I don't think making it a tracker file would make it any smaller, since you'd still need a fairly long wind sample.

I would suggest this.
I have more on my comp, though.
QWL: A cutscene, perhaps?
DT: Er...Another Cutscene?
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Tiles: I would like to suggest these, especially since you seem to like them so much! lol:laughing:
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Well okay. Sorry for the brief delay. Sir_Johnamus, both midis will be included. I just need to figure out where. I'm pretty sure they will definitely be in the quest though. ;) Some truly great stuff you've made.
The moblins with the bow, ... well, ... I'm not quite sure. I want NeoFirst's enemies to be both generic, but unique, so people don't need to go into a "moblin rut." :p
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
I was just kidding ShadowTiger. :laughing:
I know you want unique enemies. This just seemed the best spot to place a comment towards them. Gottcha!
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Heh. :p Yeah, I would've liked to use them. Anything nice and custom, or "detailed" like those moblins would be nice. Hey, if you can put bows on all the other types of Moblins there are, (Like the ones from Mystic Land.) ... Oh, here they are. Here are the tiles Teilyr "ripped" and used. These would need bows, if you're willing to draw them in, rocksfan. :)
Oh, I should also add These to NeoFirst while we're here. It'd be nice, I guess, to have multiple fonts for people to use. :shrug:
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Yeah, ShadowTiger, I can do that for you. Just give me a little bit.
EDIT: Here ya go ShadowTiger. Find them HERE
Also, I plan on doing the same for the Goriyas too. Which ones are you planning on using?
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
I made this MIDI not too long ago, maybe it could be of use

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Threw something together for the tutorial scenes.
revelry.mid
(Edit: Updated the song)
Also, it occured to me that I should find loop times for everything I've posted, so here they are.
auspice.mid - start: 209 end: 321
autumnal.mid - start: 33 end: 145
incidental.mid - start: 0 end: 13
ophidian.mid - start: 73 end: 160
overture.mid - start: 33 end: 305
revelry.mid - start: 145 end: 289
A couple of them were having an odd problem. The sound would cut out briefly when they looped. Seems to be a problem with strings. I tried to adjust the times to avoid those whenever possible.
Does it do the same thing for you, though? I wonder if it's a bug in the program, or what...

Have you got a better idea now of what you'd like for this? I'd rather like to try it.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
*Copies Saffith's loop information to a notepad file.* *Bows; thanking Saffith very much.*
That Revelry Midi is exactly what NeoFirst Needs! :D It translates into having the tutorial screens have an animated background similar to the Monthly Zelda Background, or Ganonator's old J:R background. A sky background from This, ... and ... A frame somewhere in the lower-central and central parts of the screen where all the tutorial action takes place. Cool.
In terms of the Fire Temple, it'll look like This, while the Ice Temple looks something like This. (Thanks to Mr. Z and Blaman for the screenies. They were most readily at hand.)
I'll find a midi which seems to fit their mood. Many thanks once again, Saffith. ^.^
Major Midi Update!
EDIT: 7/8/06 - I would like to add that Mighty Darknut has submitted the midi for the Forest Temple, and Rexlaninetales has submitted the midi for the Mysterious Forest which the Forest Temple is placed in. Both have been loaded into the quest, and will be given proper credit for it.
However, feel free to throw midis at the thread. Nothing will be rejected outright, as you never know when a midi can be used.
BigJoe is also being included for his 1x2 trees. I don't know what I ever did without those trees. Seriously. He also has the 1x1 bushes from Z1 to be credited for, among a few other 1x1 bushes. He also has the 3x2 Z1 statue dungeon entrance to be credited for. Thanks man! :highfive:
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Here's a public domain MIDI that I find particularly compelling:
Sicilienne by Gabriel Fauré.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
That would be amazing, if I had a "Happy" forest. I can probably divide the entire western half of the overworld (The Mystic Forest.) into a bright and cheery area, and a misted over mysterious area. I just wish Freeform Combos could accommodate large combos. They stopped being able to do that this beta 'round. It's just 1x1 formation now.
Thanks _L_! This is a wonderful midi, and I look forward to implementing it. :)

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Here's some graphics: six statues that I hand-ripped from Zelda 3's Dark World.
* Some colouration required.
* #2 actually comes from Oracle of Ages.
* #4 is also a dungeon entrance.
* Most of them are symmetrical, so you won't need that much room on the tile pages for them.

Ettin-Nut?
For quite a while now I've thought that the Splitting Darknut was a very silly enemy. Y'see, splitting makes sense for Zols because they're amorphous goo, and it makes sense for Vires because they're demons. But for a knight in full armour? Absurd!
Well, here's something which in my opinion will provide a little bit of plausibility to the Splitting Darknut: some new sprites I did of a Two-headed Darknut which I'd like to be used in place of the current Splitting Darknut sprites.
It's designed to be in the same colours as the current NeoFirst Darknut blue, which it splits into. (EDIT: But it seems it didn't work. Forgot that Splitnuts use a different cset. Oh well.)
May contain traces of miscoloured pixels.

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
You are so leet. So very, very, very leet. I hope I remember to add them when I get home. (I am presently at school, and I can't ship items home. They don't recognize any of my flash drives. Whee, etc.) Both of 'em. Remind me a bit in the future. *Adds to first post*
Though I'm not sure if ripping the ALTTP statues would count towards you or towards Nintendo. You ripped them, but they drew them, y'know? The Darknuts are most sublime, good sir. They shall be in post haste. (After a suitable backup of said tiles are made. I'll have to allot some tiles page space for alternate enemy tiles.)

Better be safe and give credit where it's due. (Though would the scallywags responsible for the in-game graphics be Graphic Designers or Artworksmen?)
EDIT: As an encore, here's a loose sample of stonework from that Minish Cap game.
Well, beta 12.999 lets you import your own sound effects, so I'd like to be the first to contribute some aural snippets, plundered from their respective games for the good of NeoFirst.
Note: these are 16-bit waves, so they might or might not be useful in their present state.
Sword Beam (from BSZelda)
Fire Rod (from LA)
Ice Rod (from LttP)
Sword Beam and other magic effects (from LttP)
Bomb Blast (from LttP)
Shutter Bang (from BSZelda)
Item Jingle (from BSZelda)
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
* Double Posts Merged. *
@ Minish Cap: ... By golly, I think we have a new Save Circle! Holy crap, huzzah! Thank you! So much! :D
@ Sound Effects: These are looking very helpful. I'm not sure if jman's L2 boss can use these particular sound effects, considering how grand-scale some of the effects will be, (I'm going to make sure Link is pummeled by a solid stream of fire at least once in NeoFirst. ;-p Heh. ... Kidding, ... Possibly.) These would be really cool for flame shooter traps though. Scripted ones, obviously.

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Well, I might as well submit some stuff mehself
MIDI - The Bottom Line (might be usefull for something
SFX (though these are MP3s, I can easily do an encode to wavs)
http://savefile.com/projects/1008880
it has the following:
False, Accomplishment, Big Heart, Death, Falling, Gate, Key, Magic Mirror, Ocrania, Prayer, 2 rain patterns, Secret, Sign, Thunder, Warp, and Wind. (rain, and thunder all have fadeouts, I can edit them for looping)
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
In the same vein:
Secret Jingle (from BSZelda)
Secret Cave Jingle (from BSZelda)
Reward Jingle (from BSZelda)'
And, another great classic MIDI: Introduction et Marche du Lion, from Le Carnaval des Animaux, by Camille Saint-Saens. Skip forward 37 seconds from the start to get to the March of the Lion, whose melody reminds me of the themes for Stone Tower and Deku Palace in MM (both of which sound more like Toru Minegishi's than Koji Kondo's to me.)
And, here's something with which to reskin my least favourite enemy, the Magic Octorock. I call it simply "Lich".
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Got some more SFX packed into a neat little (19MB) zip file, containing the stuff I already uploaded and alot more stuff
(16bit 22.05khz wavs; most of the files are self titled)
http://savefile.com/files/58757
Filelisting
1-14 = Final Fantasy 4 (SNES/PSX)
15-35 = The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
36-43 = Final Fantasy 6 (SNES)
44-60 = BS Zelda (SNES)
61-67 = Terranigma (SNES)
68-74 = Tales of Phantasia (PSX)
75-78 = Dracula II (FDS) (Castlevania 2)
79-87 = Link no Bouken (FDS) (Zelda 2)
88-89 = Megaman 3 (NES)
90-95 = Megaman 5 (NES)

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Hey, let's put these Game Boy guys into the tileset.
* GB Great Fairy (LA - last two are probably redundant)
* Stray Fairy (OoA)
* Tokays (OoA - the up sprite may need a tiny fix)
* Adlar (OoA)
* Raccoon (LA)
* Monkey & coconut (LA - a scripted enemy?)
* Vacuum tiles (LA)
* Very heavy statue (LA)
* Great Fairy statue (LA)
* Crazy Tracy (LA)
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Sorry about taking so long with the overworld. In the meantime, here are some More Overworld Things to add to the tileset.
* Decorative Insect Eyes/Fangs (LttP)
* Misery Mire brambles (LttP)
* Vine-Decorated Entrance (OoS)
* Mysterious Stone Entrance (OoA) Oh, hey, it seems this is in the tileset already!
* Library (OoA)
* Goron Bust (OoA)
* Ruins Statue (OoS)
* Large Torch (OoS/OoA)
* Tokay Wigwam (OoA)
* Onox Palace (OoS)
* Subrosian Market (OoS)
EDIT: Hey, let's put this Animated Book (by beefster) in as well.
EDIT2: I've been wondering - out of all of the Oracle trees, why do we only have modified Gale trees in the tileset?

you said they would be in then... are they still in?
PS: i'm gonna make some TP like swords... i hope it's okay to use the dor
palette...

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Well if they're so easily and readily available in Pure's database, ready for ripping, why do they need to be in NeoFirst? If you wanted them, you could just rip and include them. :shrug:

Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
HOLY FREAKING S***! Those songs are incredible! Especially for the visual theme of lv 2. Nice job Saffith!
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
I personally think that the majority of Saffith's works are too repetitive, but that's just me.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
Yeah, I have to agree, really. Even when I like them myself, I do generally wish there was more to them. Just something I need to work on, I guess.
Still, in all fairness, most 2D Zeldas do have fairly repetetive dungeon music, especially the Gameboy games.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Rine, that's for sure. It sounds incredibly useful for L2.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
I added them to the Music Tracker post.
-
Re: Credits: Music and Tiles List.
rime crackles for me =\ ive been hoping/waiting for awhile for creative to release newer winXP home drivers for "xfi xtreme gamer s/c" but so far there hasnt been any =(
other midi files i have also crackle... but most play fine.
---
volcanic is good but way too repetitive for dungeon music.

Personally, I don't think it's the repetition that's the main weakness of these two tracks, but that there isn't very much deviation from the core melody within either of them. (Well, not as much as Hylian Overture, anyway.)
