Maybe the thing uses to charge it came unsoldered on the inside. I've heard this happening with various laptops, and it happens if you keep it plugged in, and move it around a lot.

Crap! I keep my laptop plugged in, and I move it around alot. Bah, I'd have preferred a desktop, but it was a gift. Well, it seems to have stabilized for now, anyway.
It's always great to have a laptop when the power goes out. Desktops don't have the convenience of being able to stay on without juice . . . for now.
You could always get a UPS.
EDIT: Two seconds of research into the topic of UPSes reveals that they only can provide your computer with power for like twenty minutes while you either shut down or switch to an auxiliary source like a generator, and are primarily intended to avoid data loss in the event of a sudden power outage. So... there you go.
That does sound like an awesom idea....if your power goes out constantly. If not, kinda pointless.
Well, it depends on how sensitive your computer is, and how much data you might lose if it crashes suddenly. I've had to pull the plug on both my Mac and my PC many times, and I've never noticed any real data loss.
OK, changing subject. My mom is dressing as Sarah Palin for Halloween. Should be interesting...

She better get some kind of the "most terrifying costume" award...
