Be quiet, though... no need to give Shadowblazer any evil ideas.

Members may just post for competition...if we eliminated it, the spam rate may go down logically, wouldn't it? The gamefaqs board is popular and it doesn't have postcount.
testing my stars :)
But it has Karma. Yes, Karma is different from Post Count, but it nevertheless serves the same purpose.Quote:

The "Spam Rate" on AGN should supposedly be 0, since the moderators here do quite a good job banning spammers.
You're right on that one...perhaps almost too good of a job. And you can only gain one Karma a day, and there are "Free Karma" topics there which the mods at gamefaqs never bother to shut down.
Post count is tracked because it does matter, as a statistic. It shows how active a member is and how much they've contributed to the boards, discussion-wise. In that regard, it is a valuable guage of a person's standing in the community, or at the very least their notoriety ;) A member with a high post count is obviously vocal and well-known.
Problems arise, however, when people take it beyond the "statistic" level and become obsessed with raising their count just for the sake of raising it, as if it's some sort of game and by raising that number, they can "win". The way I see it, if a member starts replying to threads not to add to the discussion, but because they want to make that little number go up, then their post count has essentially become worthless. It's no longer displaying how active that person has been in the community, merely how many times they've managed to click on the Reply or New Thread buttons without spamming themselves into a ban.
Well today alot of members hired their rank and knocked me down a bit. I don't think it was because if lots and lots of posting I think it was the fact they all posted a few more times which knocked me down a bit. There will soon be two people with 4 stars. I think he/she has around 9,600 posts.
Good job SB, I love the new system.
ah i just noticed when u hovered over it you get post # :P thx system. Yea i like this idea of stars/colours/and the like. It makes it more of a community where people understand what they stand for and mean. I doubt people would spam if their wasnt a post count but that is no reason to get rid of the post count entirely.
Nice set up. I love my grey stars.
How did you make the star system?
He used his special daddy powers... ;)
I'm just curious how this works for people( like me) who uses the "extremely small and slim" system, without stars, avs & such?
Linus
I was just wondering will you ever create something or put back the stars for arcade winners?
I like the new system.
aww I love the stars and the colors. Extremely creative.
they're soooo pretty too. :D
ooh! what do I have?
*edit*
noble 3 orange stars baby ;)
I'm a forum regular
even though I havn't been here in, what? over a year?
oh well...
I think that the changes are for the best and that i wont have very many stars anyways for a while cuz i wasnt on the site for almost 5 months!
I have to say, this is quite neat. Kudos to the maker.
It was Shadowblazer who redid the star system, and for the best. At first, I wasn't very happy about it (I had so many stars :p) but now I've gotten used to it.
I may be jumping the gun, but in 5 months, we're gonna need a 5 year star.
I was wondering about that myself...perhaps we could hold a contest?Quote:

i dont know of anyone who's been here for more than 3 years, or has a 4 years anniversary coming up...
:confuse2:
I've been here for more than 3 years, so have a few others. War Lord and a few other staff members will have been here for 4 years next spring.
What can I say? they're using the 4 year stars right now. I thought AGN was made in the middle of '99?
EDIT; Looking at the joined dates, our first member joined in 1969 and our last memeber will join in 2004. we have a lotta stars to fill in...
Yeaaaaaaa my star color just changed. w00t
was it necessary for you to revive a topic for that? that's bordering on spam again and you JUST came off a ban. and i'm currently being overwhelmed with complaints about your posts this evening. i have a feeling by the time i'm done weeding through them, you're going to be banned yet again.
Well, so long as the topic is revived, I have a question.
<- See those stars over there? I just had my 3rd anniversary here (joined in April 2001), so shouldn't they be rupees?
That features not working for anybody right now, so don't worry.Quote:

Somebody broke it. It wasn't me.
Hm. Those "skull" things, .. rather look more like Kitsune heads to me. Awesome pips. If you ever need pips drawn for you, BTW, just ask me. You probably have a whole line done already though.
And if it wasn't you, who could it have been? .. Actually, I'd rather not know. It could cause a lot of turmoil on the boards.
How so, exactly? Besides SB, we have two other admins and developers who are regularly active and who have every right to tinker with the vB code.
Incidentally, Eckels appears as an admin on the Forum Leaders page. Has he been promoted?
Actually, those 'sculls' are the map of level 9 in the second quest of Legend of Zelda. I think originally it was suppossed to be Ganon's head.
It seems nobody's posted in this thread for almost a year...I just noticed an inconsistancy, tough...
Darth Chronic has now reached the "Lifeless" (10,000+) postcount, but only displays 3 golden heads...while 10,000+ posts is listed as giving four "stars". Not sure whether that means it was decided to leave regular members at 3 stars even after reaching 10,000...or just that 10,000 posts = 4 stars wasn't added to the hack when the star system got its most recent fix, but I figure either DC should get his four stars, or the first post should be edited to not say that 10,000+ posts gives four stars.
I know this thread is old and no one has posted in it for awhile and all, but seeing as it's stickied I guess it's ok....
I'm assuming the system is broken again as my star color and shape are wrong? Actually it seems everyone has the same shape and color star so I guess it is broken. Any plans to re-implement the system as it's posted here? I liked how it worked and all the variety is nice.
I think very few members' stars are red or blue, or even missing (like Pablo). These are probably glitches or whatnot, since I think nothing has been done to fix it. It's probably not hard to fix this problem, actually; it was like it before, it can happen again.
EDIT: It seems that more colors are coming back. I'm seeing orange and black, too, but only on the members with titles (Programmer, Senior Mod, etc.).
what is the current system? if these things are post count and operator status based, what is the point, anyway? seems redundant, to me.
No system currently. It's on our to-do list.
No real purpose. Just nice to have. Eye candy, if you will.
