Rodrigo Camargo's ultimate Minesweeper clone: http://www.geocities.com/minesweeperclone
Found this a few days ago...it's the most comprehensive Minesweeper program I've seen. It's pretty much identical to the factory-default Windows versions, but with cool extra stuff:
- Stats up the wazoo, so you can brag to your friends.
- Video recording, so you can brag even more to your friends.
- Multiplayer internet minesweeping joy.
- Quite a few cheat features, for those of you who just wanna play around with the program.
And it's freeware, to boot. Worship the man. :D
The 12345678 sequence in the above picture was made with the prog's board editor. The 1234567 sequence in my avatar actually happened during a real game (which the guy lost...d'oh! >_<), and the video of it (in MVF format, for playback in Rodrigo's clone) is available on the homepage (along with several others).
Also, ph34r the insane minesweeping speed of Dion Tiu and Oliver Scheer, who've both smoked the Expert board in 39 seconds...@_@
The recordings are at at http://www.planet-minesweeper.com/bestever.php...click on the 39s in the Expert column to download the videos (also in MVF format).

They're easy to find in vanilla minesweeper. In the custom game options, create a 10x10 game with 90 mines. No matter where you click, your first 'move' will never be on a mine because Minesweeper generates the entire board after your first move. So you have a good chance of picking up an 8 on your first move.

Ah, I remember being obsessed with Minesweeper when I was about 13. (I even programmed a Minesweeper game in BASIC, so I could play it on our IBM 286 before we got our next computer, but that's another story.) I think there should have been one more official difficulty level, a "Super-Expert" level, maximum size (30x24) and 150 mines. Anyone who could solve this level (in less than 999 seconds) would be 31337 and totally teh r0xx0r.
