Problem with mass-making combos from tiles in ZQ

Have a quite a nasty problem regarding tiles and combos: whenever I select tiles like this:

182 tiles selected.

and then hit "M" key to create combos for tiles, most often I end up with jumbled mess like this:

254 combos created.

As we can see, that mess contains a lot more combos than selected tiles, complete with potential to corrupt any combos that happened to be there if I would place combos into space just large enough to fit tiles selected.
Apparently Zquest assumes the tiles are always selected in Line mode, not Box mode, as it should be from first screenshot.
Any way to speed those things up, like importing large graphics, like title screens?
