View Full Version : Suggestive Graphics in Videogames these days.

So it appears a lot of video games are going with the suggestive graphics route. Just take a look at Dragon's Crown to know what I mean. That being said, what's your opinion on it? Do you think it's good marketing, bad marketing. "Sex sells as they say, but doesn't necessarily make for a good game."

IMHO I play fucking eroges "If my heart had wings, is one of my favorites"; so I don't give two shits how much sex they put in their games. Just keep it away from the kid stuff okay.

What I think makes a great game is a good storyline, a balanced difficulty (not so hard to be impossible but no so easy it's a cake walk), decent music and decent graphics. Putting a bunch of sex in it, instead, does not. I have nothing against erotic games, but if the game itself isn't any good, then the sex factor makes no difference.

Yeah this game looks a little over the top haha.

I feel indifferent about this in general though. They're not hurting anyone and nobody is going to force anyone else to buy these games.
I'm definitely not buying it because I think it looks ridiculous, heh.

I like visual novels too. Yeah, a lot of them have sexual content in them, but the stories are generally pretty interesting.
Some of my favorites are Clannad, Narcissu, Little Busters!, Rewrite, Hoshizora no Memoria, the Jisei series of games, and Famicom Tantei Club Part II.
Out of those only Hoshizora no Memoria has sexual content, but it's not something that bothers me as long as the stories are good.

I'm going off on a slight tangent here, but fan-service in anime is one thing I find particularly annoying.
I mean, if the story is still interesting I'll watch it, but it seems more and more anime has fan-service these days and it makes me facepalm haha.
Is this something that's really bringing in more viewers? I personally don't think it does, but fair enough if it is working somehow.

Visual Novels are just novels with pictures, most of them are romance novels. And there's nothing wrong with a handful a sex scenes in those lol.

Also about fanservice in anime. THAT is actually the west's fault. Not going to explain how. Because that will cause a shitstorm to hit the fan and no body wants that, :p

Well now you've piqued my interest... I'm going to look into that. So far, all I've done is complain to myself about it lmao.

I believe it's been considered standard, since Dragon's Lair. Princess Daphne, was a sexy, scantily clad blonde. There's nothing new about sex-appeal in video games, except that modern systems allow for less pixelisation. There's a decent amount of fan service in everything now, and if games had the capability to do that in the 1980s, they would have. My question: When will Nintendo get into bed with the erogame genre? They've come close (dating sims), but never anything too risqué.

This is AGN, not PZC. We don't fret over 'shitstorms' here, so, by all means, explain your theory.
