Hi All,

I'm working through the ZQuest tutorial here:
http://zcguides.celestialrealm.net/tutorials/main/ch03-04

I've just gotten to the point where I need to place an item (a key) on the dungeon screen, but as soon as I click the Item Location icon, ZQ crashes with the standard windows message "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." :bomb:

Has anyone else encountered this? If there is a previous thread, please feel free to redirect me.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have heard of this problem before but I haven't personally experienced it.

So that someone else might be able to help you, could you answer the following questions?

1.) What operating system are you using? ZQuest 2.5 is known to have problems with Windows 8, so you will have to get a newer version (2.5.1) [Forum Topic Here] (http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?96754-Zelda-Classic-2-50-1)

2.) Did you select an item before picking the item marker? I don't know if this would impact the bug, but I wonder if the item you have is invalid and that is causing the problem.

3.) What's your favorite color? (I started making a list and realized only the first question was really important).

I hope somebody can help you with this issue soon.

I use Windows 7 and ZC works fine for me so yeah CJC may be on to something....Win8 may be causing it to crash. >.<

.

Funny stuff.

I was going to say. I ran into a bit of an issue too. Make sure the item has a combo assigned to it. I tried the Roc's feather and it crashed...but when I assigned it all the appropriate data and combos it worked fine.

It's fixed in 2.50.1. You can download that here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/fxb1ktpawdmrckg/zc-2-50-1-win.zip).

Hi All,

Thanks for the great tips. I upgraded to 2.50.1 and the issue is resolved so I can continue on with the tutorial!

I am running Windows 8.1 thru bootcamp on a Macbook Pro with Retina Display. At first I thought the inability to use Full Screen graphics had to do with this, but from some other threads it sounds like thats also a Windows 8 issue

Not sure if this will help you, but in ag.cfg there's a "win_proc_fix", if it's 0 change it 1 (0 = false(off), 1 = true(on))
Don't worry, if you mess up just change it back. It doesn't make changes to your system, just ZC/ZQ there's "headers" if you're confused which one affects what.

I think some of them especially the "midi_patch" should be in ZCL

Edit: ZC and ZQ run really bad on my Windows 7 by default, some of those options could help you, I'd research what each things mean since some of them are deprecated like "dwm_flush" (DON'T USE).
I wouldn't use instant graphic updater either as it will crash.

If you really want to be safe, use a Sub(version) control system or create a system restore point.
