My laptop died yesterday.

Fortunately, the only thing I lost was maybe a few hours worth of stuff, and the HD looks recoverable.

Now, unfortunately, until I can get a new computer:

1. I am running Windows XP
2. I cannot record
3. I only have a 150 GB Hard Drive. :(

So for the next month, I will be working, but I won't be doing any mass promotion or anything. There might be private alphas though once I migrate everything from ZC to this computer.

I will be keeping this XP computer even when I get my new computer. I do like a working XP system, and it's good for things like SFR and old versions of ZC.

Once again, I apologize.

-James

Addendum since I posted on ZC: I didn't trash my computer, the heat shield went after 4 years if anyone's wondering. All my data is safe, just locked away until I get Windows 8.1 and a dual boot.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

XP is a pretty good OS, though I've been developing some fondness for 7 (figures, I always get into operating systems as they are on the way out). I wonder how 10 is coming along. Although it's probably too early to stall for that.

I had a similar issue when I made my first serious quest. My comp crashed pretty badly...
I managed to fix it (to a degree) and access the HD to swap all of my qst files, custom art, tiles, and .txt code notes to an external HD. I had to replace so many parts in that tower to try and fix the issue...(Im very certain it was a hardware issue...).
Then one day I got super drunk and was using the computer....It crashed repeatedly on me....and then finally refused to turn on....
That was the last straw...
I (without thinking) angrily pulled all the wiring out of the back of the tower... grabbed it over my shoulder....stomped to the front door....flung it open....and with one mighty grunt hurled the son of a bitch into my concrete driveway 10 feet below.
As it was sailing through the air...I actually had time enough to regret my impulsive action... but inevitably it hit the pavement with a surprisingly pleasing display of sights and sounds. Pieces shot everywhere.
If it was fixable before....It sure as hell wasn't now.
I think the only thing that survived was my Voodoo 3dfx card...and the RAM....all the boards were cracked...and both the Master and slave HDs were shocked beyond recovery.
I obviously acquired another CPU...and found myself ready to work some more on my quest...so I busted out my external 1TB HD that I had put all the fore-mentioned qst info on. Only to find that the entire .qst file had somehow been corrupted when I exported it.
That was about 9-10 years ago...So here I am again...trying out my creative energies....and to hopefully finish what I had started.
I am glad everything is going to work out for you though...
Cheers,
J~

I hope ya can get everything working soon. I've had PCs crap out on my a few times (for reasons ranging from being very old, to having a "friend" load a worm onto it because that's how he gets his kicks it seems) and have kept back-ups since the last time that happened, at least a half-dozen Bar-Buddies comics (and the custom sprites used in them) were lost (this is why I stopped updating them btw, I've been trying to duplicate the lost work, but considering most of the dialogue in the comics is done on the spot with little planning its difficult to redo all that awesomeness).

I'm still making stuff TK. Just don't expect me to record for a while.

What's wrong with the laptop?

Heat shield went. It started to burn my hand and could burn the house down, so we decided to deep-six it.

I saved the HD though: Everything's intact.
