View Full Version : Archive of 5th quests?

I thought it might be a good idea to collect submitted 5th quests and then submit them as a single zip file to the database for future zc'ers to play. Has anyone ever wanted (or tried) to play an old 3rd or 4th quest entry from years ago and found out that they were never uploaded or the link has died? Yep. That's right. They unfortunately are gone forever.
What do you guys think?

Good idea, but still, get permission first. Some have been remade already though.

I'm fine with mine being archived, though the file is also available in a superior format on Pure (I'm talking about the reskin).
Before we archive, though, should we clean sweep the quests for glaring bugs? Though... they should all be unpassworded anyway so I suppose a player could just repair the files when they come across a game-stopper.

CJC, Mine is passworded, and I'd prefer to keep it that way so if I don't win, I can release it as something else.
I was thinking of doing something else to it if it don't make it, mind you.

Just wanted to give a +1 to the idea of archiving the 5th quest entries.
Has anyone ever wanted (or tried) to play an old 3rd or 4th quest entry from years ago and found out that they were never uploaded or the link has died?
I personally would love to play any 3rd quest entries that might still exist in the ether somewhere.
Guess if any time to gravedig this, it would be now.
I will just quote James' post on OpenZC:
https://www.openzc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=541
I have asked the higher ups, and there is an agreement to have two 5th Quest Modules made for archival purposes:. One for finalists, one for people that didn't make it (modules only hold 10 quests:. There are 17, best way to split it up). The finalists will have their quests ordered in the order of finish, going from worst to first. The people that didn't make it will also have all their quests included unedited, including all controversial moments. The people that had a chance to qualify but got voted out late will be later in the module. Hopefully this will give a historical perspective on the 5th Contest in full, and why some of the decisions were made, even if not agreed on or rules changed for the 6th Contest.
Also, keep in mind some decisions were not easy or set in stone and did keep Gleeok and me up all night and more. There were some tough ones, and we made our best efforts.
We are going to go with final releases if we can; if not, use the last contest version submitted, because of the time passed since.
Contact naturesucks or me if you have any questions about the archive, and don't bug us before the 6th Contest closes testing (Jan 31st). The devs need a breather.

Sorry for the double, but:
I have updated the 5th Quest Archive with most of the entries including special editions released later. If you know where we can find any other special editions released not on Pure, OpenZC, or AGN please let Tim or me know. Thank you and enjoy. I will put modules together when my family is done fighting COVID and/or the 6th Quest Contest is over. Tester applications being taken! Link: http://www.github.com/NightmareJames/5th_Quest_Archive
