So, last year, there was the whole business of me getting sick and having to move and that was all wretched and horrible. Because of the circumstances, I lost most of my belongings, including my NES. Yesterday, my sister dragged me to a gaming convention, and since I had a little extra money on hand, I made a little investment - a new NES to replace the old one. No games yet, 'cause the prices they were charging were ridiculous (though to be fair, NES game prices have gone up all across the board, I've noticed), so I decided to do my game shopping on ebay instead. However, I gotta admit, the console itself is pretty sweet - and with the custom paint job, I simply couldn't resist. Can't wait 'till my games arrive and I can actually fire this bad boy up. Oh, and not pictured (because I wasn't thinking ahead of time) is also a custom controller to go with it.

That looks so awesome...Makes me want one custom painted with Mega Man/Samus Aran's colors.

Groovy! Now you need a couple dogbones painted in the same style!

That's really cool. Let us know what games you end up getting!

Well, games haven't arrived yet, but so far I've ordered Mario 1, Mario 3, Marble Madness, and the original TMNT. I know, I know, I must be a friggin' sadist for that last one, but despite how terrible that game is, objectively speaking, I had to order it, both to go with the theme, and because I have a soft spot in my heart for it, having grown up with it. It's like, nostalgia somehow has the power to make you enjoy a game even when you know it's terrible. Besides, I can get through the "bombs under the dam" level like nobody's business (seriously, my child self would kill to be able to get through the damn dam level).

Good choices in starter games. Though I question the wisdom of TMNT. Legend says physical copies are impossible to complete for all except the master of all Four Turtles - the Avaturtle.

UPDATE: First couple of games have arrived (Super Mario Bros. and TMNT), and I gotta say, the system works great. One thing in particular - I had forgotten how good it feels to play with an actual NES controller. I'm so used to playing NES games with a Wiimote, to use an actual gamepad was an amazing feeling.

NESs are hardy devils. I have yet to find one that doesn't work. Most of the time you can grab one at a yard sale that someone pulled out of storage and it wouldn't play games. Grab it for 5 or 10 bucks take it home and clean it. It'll work like a charm. While your at it open those games up and clean them too. Some idiot has probably been blowing in there instead of keeping his games clean.
