Zelda Skyward Sword Final Boss

Does any one have any suggestions on how to beat Demise during the final battle of Skyward Sword? I got so frustrated while trying to beat it that I put it on the back burner and played Ocarina of time just to retain my love for the series. :) Even after letting it sit for months I'm still dreading this battle so any help would be appreciated.

Shield-bash to counter his sword strikes, then smack him.

Charge up for a skyward strike when you can and try to dance the invisible line that, when crossed, will cause him to try to hit you then back away.
