Sword not showing

Started making first quest. trying my first quest I am finding that, after getting the sword I can't use it and it isn't showing up on the subscreen. Can anyone tell me what I might not be doing? or tell me how to "activate" use of the sword?

You probably enabled the rule "Can Select A and B Items" or something like that and did not pick a subscreen that has the sword on it.

Try going to the menu Quest > Dmaps and go to the Appearance tab and select an active subscreen that says something like Active(New, A+B) or something like that. If I remember right.
