View Full Version : Gerudo Theory

I was reading a post in a forum about the Iron Maiden creatures of Ocarina of Time. To my surprise if you fixed the camera correctly you'll see Gerudo faces behind their masks. I haven't tested the validity of such a claim, but I'll add to the theory (assuming it is true).

I am assuming the Iron Knuckles were originally intended to be armored gerudos for bigger plans, but time restraints caused Nintendo to make Iron Maidens to be just regular enemies. However they die like regular enemies and Link doesn't kill people. So the entire Gerudo role was competely removed from the Iron Knuckle over time.

I had heard of this before. On my play through OoT for 3DS, I took a closer look and there seemed to be many signs pointing to the conclusion that Iron Knuckles in OoT are Gerudos. It makes sense anyway based on the locations of these enemies in the game. This post has images for comparison.

I think it was an interesting idea that was scratched by Nintendo for what ever reason. I guess the "Link doesn't kill people" thing is a good enough reason.

And my mind has exploded, and then exploded again from being blown away from this.

Does that make Darknuts Gerudo as well? Spooky!

I was always under the (likely mistaken) impression that Iron Knuckles are Darknuts. Because if they aren't, then what are Darknuts?

Well yes, I had the same impression. But up until this point I assumed that Darknuts from the older games (Particularly Zelda 1) were animated armor, or (after Wind Waker) some manner of fiend. While they were depicted as very large men in Twilight Princess, I excluded that game from my consideration as it altered most of the other classic enemies (And broke the Octorok's perfect attendance record!). But maybe they were people all along.

I guess iron knuckles were basically the darknuts of OoT and MM, but they aren't technically darknuts (in name). Though, darknuts could be of different nature in each game. I considered the phantoms from the DS Zelda games to be darknuts. Also, I'm not sure if the gerudo textures were removed in MM, but the iron knuckles in that game aren't necessarily gerudos. It doesn't make nearly as much sense anyway.

That was a big disappointment for me. :(

Darknuts and Iron Knuckles are supposed to be different enemies, though I don't think both enemies are ever seen in the same game.

But yeah, I think that stuff might be legacy stuff left over from when OoT was planned on being way more epic and use the Disk Drive. There could have been a subplot about it, or maybe the Iron Knuckles in OoT were going to have destructible armor like the Darknuts in Wind Waker.
