I never understood how a lot of people consider the fact that there are so many Pokemon a bad thing. You aren't required to train all of them, not ever to catch all of them. I don't even really see Pokemon games as a game you "play to beat." It seems more like a casual game now. It's a good thing because I don't have 40 hours to blow training the perfect team to shame the Elite Four. Honestly I don't see why there isn't an official MMORPG Pokemon yet.

I know games are grown up because I am grown up. I was born at the start of the third generation of video games. There was never a time in my life when video games did not exist as a common household item. It is interesting that the first sign they mention was cutting edge graphics. I think the graphics race is over and gaming is swinging back to gameplay value esp. with the resurgence of Indie Gaming.

I agree with you here. I'm really excited that games are becoming more innovative and interesting with less emphasis on photo realism. Bastion was an outstanding indie game this (maybe last) year, and it was made up of 2D graphics. Gaming is becoming exciting again, and I'm really looking forward to see what's to come.

I believe Computer Space was the first "video game" as previous games used other types of display and not video. :nerd: This is how the maker of the first video game console got away with stealing previous digital(and analogue)games. They weren't "video games."

I agree. If developers still haven't fully tapped the current gen at the end of its life (The Last of Us and Beyond probably push the PS3 as hard as it'll ever go), and considering the cost of AAA titles, I really don't think the next generation will be all about graphics. This is where Nintendo might be able to get back into the game in full. While, sure, the next Playstation and XBox products will technically be able to produce superior graphics, the question is, will developers think the cost is worth it? I think no. The leap in graphics will not be remotely close to what it was from 6th to 7th gen, or from 5th to 6th. It'll be like... I dunno... early PS3 games to late PS3 games.

except that OXO and it's 1958 SUCCESSOR "Tennis for Two" are still graded as video games for their use of a display.

Graded as video games by who? They have never been legally considered video games and people have tried to group them as "digital games" but even this leaves out Tennis for Two as it was an analogue game. The displays used were not video displays so calling them video games is a misnomer. Tennis for Two was the second "computer game."
