Updated executable for Windows (replace RC5's zelda-w.exe): http://filesmelt.com/dl/zelda-w6.zip

There have been no changes in the quest format. Quests saved in RC5 will work in RC4 unless they use any new script functions.

We are still expecting to have the final version finished this year. That means that if all goes well, you've only got about two more months to report bugs, so please do not put off downloading and testing this build.

Christmas came early! Or something. Thank ye kindly good sir. Once 2.5 is out proper, your hellish ordeal shall come to an end. Should you be on board for the next one, it will hopefully be considerably less hellish.

Dammit. Looks like I have to get back into this. Maybe I'll check for compatibility bugs by playing through an old quest.

old quests are myths. Zelda Classic started with 2.10.

you can't prove that. plus, my faith holds 2.10 to be the beginning. thus, it is the truth.

How many RC will make more in future?

We don't know when the next version will come out or how many more release candidates there will be before the final 2.50 release. Please don't ask.

I bet will be 8 RC. Lol. I just guessing.

Depends only on the amount of major bugs or minor bugfixes that would need to be tested for regressions/collateral damage. If only a small amount are found, then this is the last one and 2.5 will be final.

Another words, now would be a good time for there to be a lot of people helping to test it.

I wont have much time to test it for a few more weeks. I don't think I myself would find many bugs though since I haven't learned how to use all of these new features yet.

Just play quests, you don't have to just use the level editor to find bugs! The Player for playing quests needs to be debugged too!

I guess I could be of more help if I tested quests instead... that I'll do. At least once I'm done with this semester.

Another updated Windows executable.
http://filesmelt.com/dl/zelda-w.zip

This one attempts to fix the MIDI patch issue.
I also made a change that might fix problems with saves being wiped and the game hanging on exit. Let me know if you can determine a change in either problem, or if you notice a lot of .tmp files not getting deleted.

If you mean MIDI instruments being replaced with Piano instruments when alt-tabbing then no, that hasn't been fixed. I just downloaded it and extracted the EXE file to my Zelda Classic folder and overwrote the existing exe file.

I've noticed one thing about both ZC and ZQ. They both set themselves to real-time priority in Task Manager. I tried it with RC 4 too, and it happens there as well. It can make some other programs a little jittery if you're running a slightly older system. As for bugs, nothing yet, but I'll do a complete playthrough of a couple of quests to see what happens.

I also added some logging. If it still doesn't work, check allegro.log and see if there are lines acknowledging the focus switch.

That's Allegro's doing. It runs its timers in a realtime priority thread. I don't know if we can change that.

Oh. Well, no worries, then. As quirks go, it's not a huge one.

Still switches instruments to Piano upon alt-tab (While running fullscreen).

Say, this is interesting. It doesn't do it in Windows XP. It'll just run in normal priority.

This is fixed. Wow, how much free time do you have Saffith? I was just browsing through the change log at Shardstorm and you are like the biggest contributor for a very long time now (Since build 1330).
