Hi,

for those of you who've played my previous quest "Aloha from Hyrule" (and those who haven't) I'm happy to introduce to you my latest quest "A Big Hunk of Hyrule"!

download link: http://www.armageddongames.net/zeldaclassic/viewquest.php?q=427

It is a classic 8-bit Zelda quest, using classic tiles/weapons/enemies but trying to twist the game to make it fresh and new :)

It is harder than the original game, but not super hard like some custom quests can be.

If you play it and enjoy it I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Cheers!

I gave it a try but since I can't find the sword I'm ready to give up. I bought the boomerang and have gotten thru most of level 1. I'm stuck in the room with the arrow pointing to the right. I can't figure out fast enough which block opens the door and I've died quite a few times already. I haven't even gotten the sword yet. I really could use 3 hearts there.

You will find the sword, but later on. It's normal that you are only using your boomerang for the time being.

The block you have to push is roughly in the middle of the arrow.

There is a heart container you can get at the beginning, by pushing armos like you were doing to find rupees. It is on a screen with armos behind a river (you just have to enter the screen from the correct spot to be behind the river).

It IS, by the way, more difficult than the original game. But it's a breeze compared to quests like DemoEx, etc. :)

Thanks for the help Jamian. I'll keep going and maybe I'll get lucky and get the sword eventually.

You truly cannot miss the sword once you are supposed to obtain it. Until then, don't worry about it and keep your boomerang at hand :)

I managed to complete Level 1 without that extra heart container, but I left some rooms behind. I'm guessing this is normal. I also successfully found Level 2, but I forgot my lunch. So now I'm searching for my lunch.

The lunch is in level 1. If you have the map you can spot the rooms you haven't visited. It's indeed normal that you can't visit all of them at this point, but there's one you can access.

I was successful in finding it, thanx.
I now made it as far as Level 4 before getting stuck again.
I have 4 keys and the red candle. The last thing I picked up was the map next to the boss room. Can't figure out where to go next.

IIRC with 4 keys you have found all the keys you need. Now you need to find doors to use them on :) Look at the map and search for secret passages leading to the unvisited rooms adjacent to the rooms you can already visit.

Other than the fact that the enemies don't match the weapons given, this isn't that bad.
Only thing I would suggest is after level 4 you need lunch again, however you need it twice.
Once in level 4 and once to access level 5. I can see someone getting stuck this way. Unless there is a spot I missed in level 4 or on the way to level 5. (I did find the one stairs that the old lady gives you one.) Almost thought about going back and using it.
I am now in search of the Blue ring.

I wanted to test the players by making them have weaker weapons than what they would usually use against these enemies. It makes fighting these classic enemies a bit different. If you are already having troubles with the fights you'll probably find levels 8 and 9 difficult.

You do not need lunch in level 4, it is a red herring (and if you do use it, it won't work, so you cannot lose your lunch and get stuck).

Ok, I have all 8 pieces, but missed a big chunk of Level 8 to get it.
I found Gannon early. No red ring, no silver arrow. I can probably take on Gannon without the ring, but the silver arrow might be an issue....

Yes, Ganon appears very early in level 9 ;) It is normal and is just meant to surprise the player. You will find the silver arrow after having met him.

Hi Jamian, I just wanted to let you know I'm currently playing your previous quest, Aloha from Hyrule, and I'm having a great time. Even if I try Z3-style quests sometimes, I'm a purist and I usually prefer "old school" quests. I'll make sure to have a look at this one after I get through Aloha!

Thanks! :) I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Still on Aloha, haven't got time to play since Monday. Would you mind helping me locate the Blue Ring, Jamian ? Some clue said it can be found after LV 3, but I can't find it. I have found LV 4 and LV 5 but would like the ring before tacckling these. Thanks in advance!

You need to walk through a mountain wall around the area where the guy told you the clue. You'll have to buy the ring.

Thanks! I only played 10 minutes last night and found the ring right away. I knew it was on that screen, it was just a matter of time before I figured it out. I should have time to finish the quest this week-end, I'll get back to you for feedback on the other one next week.

I finished level 8 and am on to level 9 now, but I failed to find the red ring (which I assume is in level 8, based on the clues). I think I found the room where the red ring is in, but I can't get to the key in level 8 that I need to unlock the door. Would you mind giving me a hint?

You'll need to find the magic key in level 9, then go back :D

Ok, I may need one more hint here. I have been wandering around in circles in level 9 for hours now. Here is where I am stuck - I got the map and the enemy bait and that helped me advance. Now I am stuck in an area at the bottom left corner of the map - I go into a room blocked with fireball statutes and when I exit the room I end up being teleported 4 rooms back. I can't find another path forward and it seems I need more enemy bait. Can you point me toward this magic key?

The hungry goriya I assume you are referring to is a decoy :)

By the way Jamian, I guess you're only following this thread, but I've started another one here (http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?94909-Aloha-from-Hyrule) about Aloha from Hyrule. I still need some help with that one, if you care to give me some tips. Would you mind taking a look ? Thanks a lot!
