Help with Quest 1

This may sound silly but I'm new to this game. I am playing the 1st quest and it is mostly hard. How do you find stuff? are there clues or hints to look for or is it just luck when you find something? Any suggestions that would speed up the searching would be appreciated. Thanks:confused-new:

Well, sometimes there are clues in caves, but most of the game is just exploring on your own and hoping you happen across something.

The screen you start on is intensely important, though. Make sure you go into the cave and get the wooden sword. Then, head north, west, and north again to see a lake. If you follow this lake until you find a bridge stretching out to the center, you will come across a tree with an opening in its trunk. This is the first dungeon.
