Help running ZC 2.10 on XP

Greetings, all.

I have just stumbled across this place. Me heart went pitter-patter. :blah: So, I downloaded 2.10, and ran it... no dice, all I got was "Zelda Classic has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the...blah blah blah" Same with Zquest. Uhh... XP, Pentium 3... 800mhz... 256 ram... yeah. I figure this place would be best to ask, as it's not really a bug... I think. I'm quite tech-savvy, but I don't seem to ssee any readme.

And before anyone says anything, please, answers this...

Run zlaunch-w.exe and make sure ZQuest is set to run windowed. That should fix it.
Don't worry. Your computer is plenty powerful enough. Any old Pentium I should be able to run it, certainly a Pentium III.

If you found us from the front page, you'll see a news release on it pointing out the issue with 2.10 and Windows VISTA/7.
2.10 is not compatible with either. Locate 2.10.2, also on that release and use that instead or grab the most recent 2.5 RC also located in these forums.
However, if you are running XP, then the reply from callitaday will fix your issue.

2.10 does not have zlaunch included.
When you installed it, it should have put icons in your start menu. One of them is windowed. Try that one.
Or, if you can locate it, get 2.10.2. that one has z-launch included.

Well, I used both the icons and got zlaunch... both ZC and Zquest load up... but they both have a black screen. If I drag the windows around, the view updates... still can't really use... any suggestions?

Yea, sounds like it may be video related.
RC 2 may fix the issue.

It sounds like it.
I know there a very select few that have had issues with the card they were using.
Though, I thought RC 2 took care of it. I guess it didn't in some extreme cases.
I hate to be barer of bad news, my friend. But that looks to be your issue.

Well, I've got just one last ideal. Tomorrow, I will attempt to get a DOS VM running, since ZC has a DOS version. I'll post if it works or not... I sure hope so...:gavel:
