View Full Version : Is Zeldaclassic doomed?

I returned finally interested to announce an official version of my quest after many years in the making, but to my surprise and disappointment the activity here seems remotely dead, members are not posting, updates are as far as I'm concerned apparently abandoned, and several complaints of the qdb rarely being updated.

So, am I too late?

Sadly, AGN is on a downhill slide. Becoming a bot haven for spam bots.
There is another ZC site you can submit quests to.
Try http://www.purezc.com

On another note. Zeldaclassic itself is not doomed. Whilst AGN may be, ZC will continue either way.

Does PureZC accept beta 550 quests? I know it's risky creating a quest using this beta but it actually never failed me. Also, is it possible to upload zip type files to PureZC as I will be photoshopping a printable map that players can use as a guide.

There is a place in the forums to submit a beta Quest.

Locate it here ---> http://www.purezc.com/forums/index.php?showforum=224

No doubt a matter of personal opinion, but there are two questions you can ask here:

1. Is Zeldaclassic doomed? - I would say definitely no. Regardless of the status of AGN, Zeldaclassic will live on as long as people are interested in it living on. I think more people care about the program than they do about this site, or any particular site about ZC for that matter.

2. Is AGN doomed? - I would say that it is certainly leading in that direction. A site that lasts as long as this has will eventually reach a point where the administrators or staff in general are not interested in the little things that are supposed to keep it running, and I think it has come to that for the most part. In addition to that, if they are not interested enough to find replacements who are interested in keeping it running, that is the 2nd sign that it's the beginning of the end. But with all the attacks, they might be saying to themselves: Why bother? Perhaps these attacks have permanently tainted this place in a way, because it doesn't seem like they will stop, and I don't think there is anything the admins can do about it in the long term. How it started I wouldn't know. Either way, I think most have accepted the reality of the situation at this point.

If the spam bots keeping pushing members away, then they'll only have each other to advertise to.

I agree. This site for years has gone through several internal server errors and such, hackers have hijacked it many times over the years, and more recently, spam bots have been flooding the boards with their advertisements. At this rate, the staff may end up with no choice but to shut down this domain and create a brand new domain. Something like agn.com. And for god sake, it should be one that is a whole lot more secure than this one ever will be! Or like I already stated, perhaps Zelda Classic should instead be hosted at PureZC. If they were to create a new and much more secure domain for AGN and make me a senior mod or an administrator upon registering over there, I would make sure I keep the new site free of any spam bots by blocking their IP addresses.

You're not too late. Please, send it in and me or someone else will tend to it.

Also yes, take it to PureZC as well. If AGN goes down for good, the necessary downloads like the program and all will probably get set up there instead.

My only concern is that because it runs off Zeldaclassic 2.11 build 18 (550-windows) which was a beta during that time, it would be unplayable to anybody who does not have that version.

Which is probably why the program gives ya a warning. But it works just fine for me.

I suggest you open it in the latest Zquest, and test it in ZC. If there's no conflicts or issues (like how the ladder combo doesn't work at all in recent versions) that would make your quest unwinnable, then go ahead and save it in that version.

I have the quest submitted to qdb if you are interfere in posting it old-skool. Let me know if the images work.

There was three quests in the list to process, one by Blackbishop (I've seen him around the board) which got through fine, one called "Souls of Wisdom" with no working screenshots, and one called "the witch and the labrynth", where it looks like some guy just took a picture of the screen with his camera and tried to upload that as a screenshot. (Press F12 in ZC, people... come on... -_-) The image is ****ing huge, by the way. I don't know which of those last two is yours though (I'm assuming Souls)

Souls of wisdom is mine. I will submit the links to the six main images in this very thread until it is posted. Keep an eye out.

Alright, this should work fine! I can copypaste them in and see how they work.

...and everything is good. The quest is now up in the database, and you can see it from the front page!

That's great! But how come the main image is not displaying on the front-page?

You gave me the same URLs that you had there before, probably. I'll see what I can do later, but right now a storm is coming through.

Ok thanks! Also as a reminder it is very important to change the version to "2.50 beta 18". It's listed as 1.90 and that version doesn't even support my quest. Lol

No offense, but it'd be a lot easier if you'd tell me all this before I process it

EDIT: Regarding your screenshots, While they showed up on the main site okay, I still can't see them in the admin control panel for some reason, so I can't really tell which screenshot is which. :/ I can see the URLs in their appropriate field, though.

It seems some players are getting stuck in the current update I have in qdb.

Can somebody update it? http://www.soulsofwisdom.com/downloads/soulsofwisdom.qst

Also, I am having difficulties figuring out where I need to go to update a quest on qdb. This thread is obviously not it, and I feels like I'm abusing the forums because of this.

I tied pming old skool, but it seems to give me an error. So this is all I know really.

Just re-submit the quest and be sure to let us know that it is an update somewhere in the submission.
