Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and now Skyrim. The best game series of them all continues to amaze. November can't come fast enough.

I've never really played any of the other games, but the trailer made this game look really nice. What's so special about this series?

The Elder Scrolls games are mainly known for being some of the largest and most detailed wide open sandbox-type games out there (and prettiest, especially Oblivion). It's the sort of thing where the main storyline lasts maybe 20 hours, and the sidequests around 200.

The most recent Fallout games were, in a large part, Elder Scrolls games set in a dystopian future. Sure there are more differences than that, but the game engine is the same and the world structure is pretty similar.
