Light of the Heavens DX help

I hope this is the right place to post this but I'm playing Light of the Heavens DX and I'm stuck in the first temple. I've gotten one small key and used it to get to that button which stops the waterfall but that's as far as I can get.

How did you get the button to work? i found all three buttons, but i can't activate them. i just stand on them and nothing happens.
