Start Freedom's SwanSong Genesis quest (doesn't affect other sub-screen types I believe).

Make sure you have multiple equipment items in the top row to choose from.

equip the sword and roc's feather then save&quit.

load the quest and items in the top row will be equipped instead of the sword and roc's feather.

Okay, now we're just splitting hairs here. ..How does it work in the NES?

When you push right it goes across and down

->->->->v
->->->->v
->->->->v
->->->->(return to top left)

When you push left it goes across and up.

(return to bottom right)<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-----------
In latest builds we get the below behavior...
----------

When you push left it goes across and up.

(return to bottom right)<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-
^<-<-<-<-

When you push right it goes across and down but stays to the lowest row once the courser reaches there.

->->->->v
->->->->v
->->->->v
->->->->(return to bottom left)

you don't know half how irritating it is for me as player to start everytime without my sword but a boomer there

Even if it was a NES limitation (not remembering last selected weapons), the subscreen type affected isn't used in the NES version so the fix shouldn't be bound to NES limitation that doesn't exist.

My previous post was discussing another problem with the same subscreen.

How about this: if a sword is in the inventory, then at game start, shove it in the A slot regardless of the quest rule?

If it can't remember both weapons then that will have to do.

quest rule?
is there a quest rule causing it to forget what you had loaded last?

Why would I know? I don't have the password to your quest :P

I was responding to L
I know of no such quest rule that should effect where it saves the position of the last weapon used.
If there is one, I'd like to know about it.

Don't forget to fix this as well http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?45342-1204-amp-1200-item-selection-resets-to-top-left-most-items-on-the-higest-row&p=433613&viewfull=1#post433613

Right, my diagnosis of this bug is:
Firstly, the post about how franpa doesn't like the selection in SwanSong ~Genesis' subscreen is down to how it's set up in the quest rather than anything else.
The subscreen cursor is currently set to pick the two items with lowest subscreen selection ID, and seeing as the sword in SS ~G is in the bottom right-hand corner it doesn't pick that on starting the quest, which could be 'corrected' for that quest by having it select the sword on start up, or by re-arranging the items in the subscreen - and some people might not want the sword to be selected on start up.

Could the save file be allowed to save the 2 items that are currently selected when you quit?

That would probably be the nicest way to deal with it.

That is acceptable.
