Someone has to start posting so I guess I shall get the ball rolling.

If you have noticed any errors, problems, or oddities with the new forums, please post them, politely, here.

posts not listed by cronological order
Think Tank missing
some old smilies no longer work (no big deal imho)
avatars are teeny
no way to collapse category containing archives/convention threads

DD already knows about those but asked me to post them anyway.

Many thanks to the men behind the curtain who have gotten the forums back up and running for our mutual mastur...er, enjoyment.

I couldn't see me old avatar, and I can't even change it or add a new one.

Yeah, my avatar isn't showing up, but it's still displayed on my user cp->edit avatar, and there's no options to reupload or change it.

I'm confirming the avatar problem; also my signature images aren't showing up as anything but links.

I just posted a thread, and had to log in again for some reason. Also, it said I can add 5 tags to the thread. I added 3, and the forums told me I exceeded the limit by 1, so I had to reduce it to 2.

Can you provide more detail about the chronological order thing? Posts look ok on my end.

I've reuploaded the smilies. Let me know if any are still broken.

Can you provide more detail about the chronological order thing? Posts look ok on my end.
I have noted this issue in GB, VGD, and FG but not GD or NMF. I set thread display options to "beginning" (I was feeling nostalgic) and threads are not displayed in chronological order either by thread start dates or last post dates. In GB, for instance, the first four posts after the stickied posts are:

Alright Russ, it's on start 02-15-2009 09:55 AM last post 02-23-2009 05:14 PM
army screws me again start 05-17-2009 08:47 AM last post 05-17-2009 10:47 AM
As you feel... I feel. start 12-10-2008 03:17 AM last post (no responses)
barack oSama start 02-26-2009 11:56 PM last post 03-30-2009 06:08 PM

I only did a quick check of the first five General forums because now I have another issue. I keep getting logged out almost every time I jump pages. I had this issue with the past forum incarnation about a month and a half ago but it suddenly stopped. I am hoping it stops in this incarnation because it is frelling annoying.

And screw the Tunnel Snakes. They still have not returned my copy of "Nikola Tesla and You".

At the bottom of the forum page, did you select to order threads by last post time, descending? For some reason it defaults to ordering by thread title name (very annoying, I'm looking into it).

Nicholas Steel
11-29-2009, 11:58 PM
Show threads from the "beginning"
Sort threads by "last post time"
Prefix "(any thread)"
Order threads in "ascending order" (Or descending if you want)

Seems to reset to sorting by thread title when you log out/in which is annoying.

My entire "Zelda 1.5 Deluxe" thread in the Quest Announcement / Discussion forum has been deleted after the new forum install ... all newer and older threads are still there though ... I know it's always hitting me by accident, butt this is maybe as it should be.

Please remove the Zelda 1.5 Deluxe quest and the Zelda 1.5 Final quest from the QDB entirely, so I won't have to ask for more updates and there won't be anyone making a new thread about my two quests anyway, nobody is playing them at all (my newest quest didn't even have 200 downloads before the forum went dead for a day, and it was up for at least 3 weeks already, while other quests had 10.000's of downloads in no time).

I don't know if there is still any Janine's quest on the QDB, if so, please delete those as well. They're outdated and not played either anymore. There isn't even any support file for those quests available, so if people ask me for help (if that ever happens), I couldn't even give them any good answers.

Please also delete the other threads about my quests to make it look like they never existed. Most of them have not even a single reply and it was always the same person asking for help which went unanswered ... no miracle, since I didn't support those old quests anymore. I hope I listed all threads and didn't forget anyone left.

Two new idiosyncrasies:

"Quick Reply" field not always showing up even when rest of page loads. This seems to be hit-or-miss and I am trying to recreate this consistently so I can give you more info'/determine if it is just a result of timing out from slooow load times. Other sites loading fine/quickly for me.
Hovering over thread icons (the envelopes, et cetera, next to threads) brings up a blank field. Not really important but thought I would mention it.

Same here. Every time I come back I have to log-in again, even though I selected the 'remember me' checkbox.

Curiouser and curiouser.

I wanted to make another reply in this thread to attempt recreating an issue I noticed after a reply I made in another thread. I hit the "Reply to Thread" button and page switches to thread reply page with Cloral's post already quoted. Just to be sure I did not hit the "reply" button under Cloral's thread I backed out and tried again making sure I hit "Reply to Thread" for whole thread and again, Cloral's reply quoted.

Earlier "Reply to Thread" button was forcing me into the "Quick Reply" field but did not happen this time. Checking to see if submitting this results in another open tab like happened after reply in different thread.

*edit* no new tab opened this time so last time must have been one-off glitch. Also did not have to re-log in to submit last reply or to add this edit as I had had to do previously.

I wanted to see if the new forum was smart enough to stop me from voting reputation for myself. Too bad the "menu" that appears seems to be at a lower layer than the next post. All I see is a tiny sliver of the "menu" and the rest of it is out of sight.

*edit* Scratch that; it's working now

I was going to look at a thread in GB but when I click the "last" link it takes me to the forum index. Also while I'm editing this post the text editor is pushed down so it's underneath the postbit; it's kind of weird.

The "Last>>" glitch happens for me, too. Also, the reputation box isn't appearing for me at all. It's not important, but the star system was eliminated and I believe it is impossible to differentiate between a mod and a normal member.

I'm going to add myself to the list of people with login problems...only difference is that I cannot log in at all on Firefox. I get the confirmation, but when the next page loads I'm no longer logged in (I'm posting this using IE).

And the strange thing is, the cookies appear to be set (at least I remember seeing a bbuserid cookie among them).

I am currently at 70 PM's stored of an allowed 50. Are we going back to the reduced number of allowed stored PM's or will the number be bumped back up? I do not want to just delete all mine if this is just temporary.

Still having problems with "Reply with quote" button. Get sent to "Reply to Thread" page with an error, "The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters."

I've fixed the <<First and Last>> buttons (it was indeed a bug in the forum software; I've submitted a patch to the vBulletin developers.)

DD, if you are referring to my problem with replies I will try to be as clear as possible.

In making this reply I clicked the "reply with quote" button at the bottom of your last post. I was immediately taken to the reply page (not "quick reply" field) with an "Errors" field at the top; "The follow errors occurred with your submission" (I have not attempted to submit anything as of yet) "The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters". Below the "Errors" field is the "Your Message" field with the reply field included. No where in the reply field does it contain the content of your post w/ appropriate quote tags that I was attempting to quote. This has been a consistent issue since yesterday so it should be easy to reproduce. Perhaps someone else can attempt to use the "reply with quote" option and tell us if they 1.) get the same error message & 2.) actually get the quoted text of the post they are replying to in the reply field.

*edit*
The multi-quote option does not seem to be working at all for me.

Just thought I'd point out that there seems to be a 4 image limit per post in effect. The lost post I was reposting had 5 images in it, and the screenshot thread has some old posts with well more than that. I don't know what the original image limit was, but it may have been around 10, thus meaning it takes more than double the number of posts it took before to post a large series of screenshots. Hope this limit gets increased a little, otherwise there could be double posts just for someone to get their screenshots all in at once or something...

Is there any way to save your viewing settings for forums like Video Game Discussion? I've changed it so that it displays the newest threads first instead of sorting by thread title, but when I return to the forums later it returns to sorting by thread title, which is kind of annoying and useless. Is there a way to make my changed settings there permanent?

Why?

Well ... since my most updated thread has vanished in the upgrade of the forum and all the other threads were practically unnoticed, and my quests have about 1/20th of the downloads other people's quests had, I see no sense in posting them here anymore, and I want to have them removed, so - even if it would happen - nobody can ask me anymore about things here which I will forget quite soon anyway. When you don't play a quest for months, you tend to forget about the secrets and so on, that's normal.

I've decided to stop "questing" for ZC. That's why I said, maybe it had to come that way (the vanishing of the Zelda Deluxe thread). I don't wanna make a new thread. I just wanna quit and I wish that the topics about my previous quests are archived at least, so nobody can post there again. And I also wish that my two Zelda 1.5 quests are removed from the QDB. If there is still any Janine's quest left there, please also remove it. Janine has stopped "questing" even before I did now, and she agreed on the removal.

Matt, this thread is meant to help the staff correct forum issues. Please take your ZC grousing to the appropriate forum, where someone with the power to help might actually do so.

None of the authors that make popular quests started out with thousands downloading them in the first few weeks. It takes time to build a name for your self and get everyone to direct newbies to your awesome quests. DFW and Petoe didn't give up and now they are like the gods of ZC :P with Freedom and Pineconn and some others not far behind.

This is not a problem with the forum itself, per se, but the new forum is amazingly unfriendly to mobile phones.

The old version had a special theme built in, but even without that, it was usable on my cell.

But, now, trying to read the forums is an exercise in futility...

I've been at it for several days now, trying to fix my AGN cookie dilemma. I have a Sandboxed Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5, and I have cleared all cookies on the Sandboxed and non-sandboxed variant, performed the deletion of cookies.sqlite or whatever it was called in my documents profile Applications Firefox area, ... not quite sure what else I can do, really. It's still not remembering me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. :-\

Yes, I just now did all of it again. Deleted sandboxed and non-sandboxed cookies.sqlite files, cleared all cookies on both, all the history, .. everything I can think of. I log back in to AGN after starting up Firefox, re-enter all my login information, ask to be remembered, and the little horizontal strip scrolls down from the top asking if It should remember the password or not. I click yes of course, and I log in. I leave and return, and I am logged out.

I'm not sure if this matters, but do you have AGN saved as a bookmark in Firefox? If so, delete, and re-bookmark it, then delete all cookies/ etc. If you have the old bookmark, maybe the login is messed up since it thinks you're logging into an older version of vBulleten. I dunno.

I don't have to quit Firefox at all for it to forget me. I can go to anywhere else on the internet and come right back, within the same tab, and I'll have to log in again. After I cleared the cookies, it even asked me if it should remember the password.

Anthus's idea is a good one though. (BTW, Happy birtthday yo. :) ) I'll try that. Thanks for the concern everyone. :)

EDIT: Ooh, It was Anthus' Solution that worked. Thank you so much! :D This is going to sound really awkward, but I never thought having AGN as a bookmark would be the thing that would screw me over when going to AGN. :blah: Bookmark replaced and chastised. No cookie for bookmark.

Glad it worked. I was just going on a whim, since I had some unrelated issues with the site being bookmarked. With me, it kept 404'ing due to a bad link. I just figured since nothing else worked, it might. I also had cookie-related log in issues.

Thanks for the b-day wishes too.

EDIT: On a completely different note, the rep button is busted. For me, clicking on the star for rep brings up a window underneath the border of the post window, allowing you to see only the edge of it. As a result, I can't do anything from there.

EDIT: On a completely different note, the rep button is busted. For me, clicking on the star for rep brings up a window underneath the border of the post window, allowing you to see only the edge of it. As a result, I can't do anything from there.

Yeah, it's something that I'm looking into. Usually you can fix it by scrolling the window up ro down a few lines, and clicking on the star again.

Has anyone noticed that the bar on the font color icon for the quick post sometimes goes berserk? Usually it floats a few hundred pixels above where it should be.

If I hover over the bar with my mouse, the bar snaps to where it should be. Weird.

Does [ Ctrl ] + [ - ] work for you in such a case to shrink the scale of all of the screen's elements?

Yeah, it changes the sizes just fine. It does little in the way of the box though, since it moves proportionately.

Oh, sorry. x X. I'm a dunce sometimes. www.sandboxie.com (http://www.sandboxie.com/) - Sandboxie is like its own self-contained environment on your computer, where you can open virus-ridden programs and such without fear of harming the rest of your computer, as they will only affect the area within the sandbox. You can then flush out the sandbox and start anew. It's like a virtual environment.

Something needs to happen to the sig formatting. When people with big signatures make one-line posts (it's amazing how strong the correlation between the two is) then here's how my eyes seem to go:

OK here's the post uh it looks like an advertisement for a quest with a bunch of images WTF? Oh, wait, that's the signature. There's a tiny line of text above it. "Yeah me too." What a productive post!

Franpa's post slightly before mine displays this, but his sig *isn't* ridiculous other than its assumption that any of us care what hardware is in his computer at the moment. The post is one line long, but the first thing I see is a billboard for newegg. I have to consciously look for the post.

Maybe the sigs could float down to at least flush with the bottom of the postbit, thus leaving a huge blank space showing that the most important content of the post is the observation that it contains no content? This would help instill shame, and shame is an important part of life.

I am not sure I get what Atma' is driving at but does it have anything to do with why some members like franpa, Pineconn, and Gleeok and, to a lesser extent, ST have extra blank space below their signatures while members such as Atma' barely have any blank space below their's?

/me goes off to check own signature in other posts before continuing

I just noticed that the amount of blank space beneath my signature varies from post to post. I can probably figure out the "why" if I compare enough posts (I am guessing it has something to do with length of post versus size of signature) but does someone else know the answer already?

*edit*

Oki, I get it now. The entire post field has to be a minimum height that matches the member info to the right of a post (screenname, stars, title, reputation, avatar, et cetera) so any "unused" space after post content and signature content is merely blank space beneath where the signature would be. Yeah, I feel like a dunce now, particularly because I appreciated that several years ago and did not remember until just now.

He's talking about this:

With a short post (green) and a large sig (red), you think they're the same.

6

If the sig was floated to the bottom, though, you'd be able to see that they are not the same:

7

Also, someone please increase the max attachment size! In resizing my images, the forum turned two 3.4kb PNGs into two 9.3kb JPGs!

Pineconn
12-05-2009, 05:22 PM
Yeah, the factor that contributes to space under a sig in a short post is the postbit (avatar/post count/username).

I'm not seeing this. It must be a computer by computer thing. Does this always happen for you, or is it random? It is really strange though.

It's actually pretty random. It might happen after posting a quick reply, or when I click on a thread from the index and the webpage automatically jumps to the latest post.

I'm one of few that hate large or distracting signatures. So I make mine simple text and a less attractive size to normal post text size.

I had a big portion of my post made up as a thinly-veiled suggestion that this is actually a feature to help highlight posters who typically have more content in their signatures than their posts and thus contribute little to the forums. Then I realized that A) there are people like Franpa with big signatures that aren't the kind I really hate and B) there aren't enough members to bother calling people poor performers, so I took it out.

I think it still stands though. The posts that I'm having the hardest time reading due to giant brightly colored images consist of little more than "I agree" or "I'm bored so I'm just going to add a sentence."

In the end I think the real problem is the only separator between post and signature is a very feint horizontal rule that doesn't span the width of the post. In the old theme I believe it was a solid white line that expanded across the entire post.

On the old theme it was fine, I can make it even smaller though afaik. I list my specs as I like being able to report bugs and not manually type out my specs each time?
Oh that makes sense. How often does it turn out that your case, power supply, hard drive capacity, or motherboard are the cause of a bug? Seems like "2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800gt 512MB, Windows 7 x64 RTM" is the relevant string and it fits on one line ;) It's just a joke really. In the end I feel like the surest sign that something's wrong is a sig like yours turns out to be distracting with the current formatting. It's just a bunch of text; it ought not to be more prominent than the post. My guess is a better sig formatting would use a lightened text color, but it should be the forum's job, not yours, to fix it.

I like to know who is giving me reputation marks but it does not bother me that it is hidden in the new version. I have been "signing" the reputation marks I have been giving out since the update because it is more important to me that people know who mine are from. Not having them automatically tagged by giver allows us the option of anonymity which I kind of like. Only prats would hide behind that anonymity when giving bad reputation marks, though.

Also, how does the green bar work? It seems to have two shades of green, and the number of units does not correspond with rep power.

Somebody dig in the code and set an expiration date on the cookies that's sometime in the future.

Here's a couple of the Set-Cookie headers from a login at 8:19 PM Central time. It's UTC -6, so that would be 2:19 AM December 22:

bblastactivity=0; expires=Wed, 22-Dec-2010 02:19:34 GMT
bblastactivity=0; expires=Wed, 22-Dec-2010 02:19:34 GMT

So when I log in at 8:19, I get cookies that expire at 8:19. For the love of Pete, look up setcookie() (http://us2.php.net/setcookie), particularly the $expire parameter. As the code suggests, time()+60*60*24*30 will set the cookie for 30 days in the future. Do a find/replace on the code and fix it plz.

My guess is that right now it's using the default for $expire, which deletes the cookie at the end of the "session". That used to translate to "when you close the browser", but I bet it can also be interpreted as "when you close a tab", which probably explains why sometimes you stay logged in and sometimes you don't.

Thunderbird
12-21-2009, 11:02 PM
Looking at that, you're getting cookies that will expire a year later. I checked my cookies for this site, the 4 that are related to vB login data expire 12/01/10, while 4 others are session cookies.

This has been bothering me for a while now.

As I look down the threads, some people's posts fill the entire post area, and other people's posts only fill about half of it. Here's a brief example of what it looks like:

Oh hello, I am a long sentence and I'm going to go on and on until I get to the end of the screen and
only then will I wrap.

Oh hi, I'm the second post and for
some weird reason I wrap much
farther to the left.

For a real example, see the Mega Man 10 thread (http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?45175-Mega-Man-10). The first post wraps at about 75% of the page width, the next few posts fill the page width, then Mottzilla's page-ending post wraps late. The next page is the same story; 1st and last posts wrap early.

At first I thought it was idiots that believe you have to press enter when you reach the edge of the text field in the browser. Then I decided Mottzilla was too smart for that. Then I noticed my own post displaying the behavior (http://armageddongames.net/showthread.php?45222-One-of-my-roommates/page2) and that's when I started noticing the 1st/last post pattern.

For some reason, the first and last post on each page wraps with a much smaller margin than the other posts. This is curious. It happens in IE as well as Firefox.

*edit* Another oddity: this post currently wraps early because it is the last in the thread. If I click "edit" then the whole editing UI is crammed into the small space. When I save the edits, the text of the post fills the entire width.

When doing a search, the total number of posts appears to be affected by the above bug too.

edit: Also can't search specific forums only.

"Newest post" feature doesn't work on threads containing new messages, it takes me to the first post of the page containing the unread post.

I just upgraded vB to the latest version; we'll see if that fixed this issue.

It seems to be working now :)

"Advanced Search" link in the top right of each page should not take the user to http://armageddongames.net/search.php it instead should take users to http://armageddongames.net/search.php?search_type=1 as it lets you choose specific forums to search within.

The log out feature does not work on the ZC website. Also, it appears that sent PMs are not being saved to our outbox anymore.

The log out feature does not work on the ZC website.

The same also goes for logging in; the http://www.zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net/zclogin.php script is broken:

Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home/armaged/public_html/zeldaclassic/zclogin.php on line 2

Warning: require_once(./global.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/armaged/public_html/login.php on line 41

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/armaged/public_html/login.php on line 41

The zeldaclassic login/logout problems should be fixed. I can also confirm that PMs aren't being saved in Sent Items... I'll report this to vB and see if I can fix it.

What's wrong with the Advanced Search?

Here, replace the link mentioned in the first image with one pointing to the same place as in the 2nd picture.

Why is 'suicide', 'whore', and 'banana bread' in the top 44 most searched for tags?!

Is that a joke or have bots developed the AI equivalent of a 7-year old?

Lol.. I can find at least two instances of each word on this board. There was a thread about banana bread, and there was a thread about mock suicide, and the word 'whore' is used often enough. I believe Moocow has the phrase "dirty whore" somewhere in her profile, or something O:>

EDIT: On a related note does anyone else get a random "syntax error" sometime when trying to go to the main index? It just started happening every so often. If it happens again, I'll copy the line to notepad, and post it here.

Someone kept trying to hack the site and insert a bunch of spam links, but did so incompetently so that it broke the page with a syntax error instead. Looking through the access logs I found the script they were using and deleted it...

No, I don't, actually. But thank you for the assumption.

Go to Settings (top-right next to Log Out). One of the options in the panel no the left should be "Edit Avatar."

No, I swear you did at some point. Cause I was like "lol". :v

This has been bothering me for a while now.

As I look down the threads, some people's posts fill the entire post area, and other people's posts only fill about half of it. Here's a brief example of what it looks like:

I notice this too sometimes. It seems to be when I start a thread, or edit a post when it "wraps" early.
