Who needs Zelda II Enhanced, when someone has gone and put out something like this (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/456/)?

Its a shame the overworld flashes on any emulator that (including newer versions then ones specified in the readme) is half accurate or completely accurate in emulation >.>

Hmmm. I'm using Nestopia v. 1.09 and I have no problem. Maybe you can find that somewhere or another working version, but if not I guess that's just unlucky.

Nicholas Steel

I tried Nestopia 1.40 >.> but yea, it doesnt work in new/accurate emulators. only works in old inaccurate ones!

Vagla

It works perfectly fine in Nestopia v1.40 and other new/accurate emulators. I'd be willing to bet you patched a wrong or bad ROM. Try another one, since it's not the hack's fault.

Nicholas Steel

Ok, ill look for v1.0 and v1.1 of the rom (the readme does not mention what version to patch)

Vagla

The readme says "Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link (U)", which does indeed work. If the ROM you used has that filename, then I don't know what to tell you, but I'd assume something was wrong with it.

Nicholas Steel

exactly, but there is v1 and v1.1 of said rom, there is no version nothing of the rom, that is just one of the already mentioned versions but poorly named.

It's running fine for me under FCE Ultra and Nestopia. Dunno what the problem on your end is.

Now I just have one question: great ZII hack, or the greatest ZII hack?

Vagla

I'm not aware of the 1.0 and 1.1 versions, and I suspect the hack author isn't, either. The GoodNES set only has "Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link (U)".

Gr. So, I'm stuck. Anyone else here playing this hack? I want to have a PM conversation and get help with something here.

Well.... I'd like to help you, but I'm not as far along as you probably think I am. I've got the candle, I've found two Magic Containers to bring my total to 3, I've got the Shield and Jump magics and I've found my way to a cavey area that looks like the old Death Mountain. But I haven't been able to get very far, if I run into a strong enemy in the graveyard it pretty much means I'm toast.

Just got the Jump Spell and a Magic Container. All my stats are up to level 4, and I'm wandering around the western graveyard / forest caves with no luck whatsoever.

EDIT: This (http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b117/BH4/Random%20Images/Zelda2HackMountainSecretPath1.gif) is the solution to the aforementioned mountain path secret. You'll be wandering around for hours unless you get creative and start bumping into things. :p

Who needs Zelda II Enhanced[/URL]?

Is that still being worked on?

Nicholas Steel
10-25-2008, 09:42 PM
With help, I got this working. goes to show there are indeed multiple versions of a game. Both versions (different file sizes) that I had, failed with the hack in a similar yet different way.

GoodTools are not the best things in the world, but I guess I shall have to use it for NES ROMs because no one has made a better ROM format for NES dumps yet. For SNES ROMs you should use NSRT.

Is that still being worked on?

I don't think so, and it makes me sad, but then I remember that I'm learning to program, so maybe someday I'll just make it my own damn self.

Nicholas Steel

What on earth do you do once you get the candle? how do you get the magic? I assume I need the jump magic to jump a certain area in one cave to progress through the game...

BTW, it IS normal that you can't break the blocks in the first dungeon right?

Modus Ponens
10-26-2008, 03:12 PM
Yeah, it seems that way. I think you get the Handy Glove way later (which is pretty rad, IMO). Anyway, yeah, you need Jump, right? So you have to go find the item that that lady in Rauru is so pissed off about having lost. It's in one of them caves around that first area of Hyrule. You'll find it if you explore a while.

ShadowTiger
10-26-2008, 06:48 PM
Yep. Head East from the palace, then south once you hit the beach shore. There's a Goriya in there guarding the necklace.

Also, purely for interest's sake, did anyone else notice that there was a key the boss in L1 drops before you get the candle that can be used on the other locked door you have to stop at before you go to the path that has the boss? ... ... I.e. you have two locked doors you can use that one key in. One leads to the candle, and honestly, I dare not even try the other, lest I get stuck without a key.

Nicholas Steel
10-26-2008, 11:47 PM
The other probably leads to... THE CANDLE TOO!!!! (no,I don't really know whats there)

ShadowTiger
10-27-2008, 06:44 AM
The Candle is in the first temple. Go about ... southeast from Zelda's Palace, I guess through some mountainous-embedded woods and into a cave. Yes, you'll have to stumble through it in the dark. Then you'll have to beat Horse-Head twice. The second time, the candle is immediately afterward. Use the key he drops on the door to his right, not on the door on the floor beneath him.

I am aware, I was just being a bit sarcastic on what may lie beyond the door your not meant to go through yet ;)

Ah, no, sorry... heh, that was the result of me rolling out of bed, getting back into bed to use my Wii, and replying within about a minute of waking up. ... ... I have such terribly interesting priorities in the morning. O.o

Ah, now that is a curveball if ever I saw one. Knowing about that will save me a lot of pain. I have a hard enough time getting there with all three of my lives as it is, I'm wondering if I should have found the Book and/or the Certified Writ (which will get me the life magic, I believe) before trying to tangle up there. My stats are at 3 / 2 / 5, by the way.

Hello new board. :)

You can get the Life spell without the writ. Just go through the southern part of Death Mountain area.

Wow, Ice Penguin! Rad. I hope you stick around at least long enough for me to beat Journey of a Day. Not that I'll need to have my hand held the whole way, but here and there I think I'll need a little help.

(Great hack, btw.)

Whoa. I didn't expect to see you pop up here. This is.... a pleasant surprise. :spin:

I'm afraid I've had to resort to peeking at the crib sheet (the Item FAQ), but it's really helped me out in terms of knowing whether I'm supposed to be trying to get past a particular obstacle. I suspected I wasn't yet ready for the Red Alligator in that final cave in Death Mountain. Speaking of which, walking over mountains? Some of these puzzles are insane.... unless that woman in Ruto was supposed to say "Illusion in Graveyard," instead of Illusion in Swamp? That would have given me more of a chance.

You're right about one thing though, that Item FAQ does spoil a lot of the FrUstratioN. I'm glad you included it. :sly:

Hi guys, has anyone gotten this key in the sand palace yet? Looks impossible to reach from the fall-apart ledge on the right. It occurred to me to look for another way to reach the key, but no success yet.

Sam Atoms
11-15-2008, 07:42 PM
Heh, you actually don't get that key right now. There's a wicked trick here. That pit of lava under the key may look a little bit suspicious. Well, use Jump Magic and, from the lower floor, jump *over* the pit of lava right at the wall. You'll find that part of it is false wall. Go through the secret passage, and you'll find another key. It'll be a long time before you finally come back and get that first key.

Has anybody managed to figure out the puzzle that is the Great Palace maze?

Sam Atoms,

Thanks for your help! I'm not sure I would have ever considered jumping into the wall; I don't think there is a hint to suggest doing do.

Mr. 207,

I have not been to the Great Palace yet, but I did find a hint (perhaps you have found it already). Spoiler alert:

-=SPOILER=-

SilverWizzrobe

Heh, I'm finally at the great palace. After following the hint in the spoiler above, I'm still at a loss. I talked to every person in the 8 towns (well, except Old Kasuto) hoping to get another hint, but no such luck.

This has been a blast to play, by the way; I really hope I can finish this (without blindly wandering the last dungeon)

Sam Atoms

It's a blast all right. It's an adventure to keep from getting blasted off the broken bridges and into the wet every time I put a new game on and try to go where I want to be.

And for all those coming up - - after you get the raft and cross the sea, watch out for an invisible town in the desert. The dirty, nasty tricks just keep coming. I'm at 4 / 3 / 6, and trying to keep from getting parted from my skin on the Maze Island is tough, to say the least.
