View Full Version : Superlatives 2008?

Pineconn

It's been about a year since we've had Superlatives. I was wondering if we had plans to do it again this year.

MasterSwordUltima

How come I've never even been friggin' nominated for them? I've only been here for some seven years.

Russ

I just want them to start again. When will they begin? Can we suggest some of them?

With only a core group of members left and their numbers dwindling, I think you have a good shot at being nominated.

MasterSwordUltima
09-01-2008, 02:04 AM
Yes, phattonez, your dollars just went up in value.

wait, so the only way I have a chance of getting one is if all the hot-in-the-crotch members aren't around? Awwww...come on. I freaking made MPQ World, and what about all of my Shattered Earth efforts? =_='

DarkDragon

ShadowTiger ran the superlatives last year; you should ask him if he'd be interested again this year.

I nominate ShadowTiger as the "most likely to set up the 2008 superlatives".

...Man, has it been a year already? crazy.

Respectively:

I accept. Apparently.

And yes. Yes it has been. It's entirely absurd, and I do not recall nary a moment of the events between the two.

You know, I think someone says that every year when the superlatives roll around.

Russ
09-01-2008, 08:30 PM
So, when does it start?

Pineconn
09-01-2008, 09:24 PM
The events that make the most sense to do now are to determine the Superlative titles, nominate the people, and then vote -- the same as last year. All else I remember from last year is that we had a separate forum for the Superlatives.

One thing I suggest is that we should set a "too old" year limit for the Best Newbie Superlative. I know that there was some criticism last year that Darth wasn't a newbie.

Russ
09-01-2008, 09:49 PM
Give it a one year limit.

Archibaldo
09-01-2008, 11:01 PM
Is it really that time of the year again?

ShadowTiger
09-02-2008, 07:51 AM
I never actually imagined the Superlatives having a set time of the year. If anything, theoretically, superlatives should really be given more towards the very very end of the year so that the year's label won't be a partial lie. :p But then, that'd coincide with all sorts of fun events, like fall semester final exams, the snowy holidays, New Years plans, blizzards knocking out your power, penguin invasions, etc.

So DarkDragon PMd me. Thanks aye; so should we use this thread to discuss it, or make a new one? Eh, why waste a thread.

Here are a few ideas:

We should have 19 or 20, or 29 or 30 categories this year. I want them all to fit within a single forum page, rather than having something like 27, and having a full page of 25 threads, and having 2 on a straggler page.

Additionally, yes, the newbie time frame is roughly a year and, say, two months?

Also, something to talk about; what if everyone were able to nominate two names? I'll likely be alphabetizing the names in each category this year so that I won't be adding people twice. :p So that'd work out.

Once everyone can vote, two weeks for voting. Once we've all finalized our categories for nomination, three weeks for submitting PMs to me. Then a few days for me to set up the forum, and we can start voting.

Ugh, that reminds me, one of these days I need to figure out how long I've been here. Technically, I first came here in 2001, but I'm pretty sure there are at least a couple of years in there you can deduct due to hiatuses.

MasterSwordUltima
09-02-2008, 12:04 PM
How was I here for 8? I joined in 2001, it is now 2008. If anything, 7.5 years.

Anyway, vote MSU|2008

Masamune
09-02-2008, 12:11 PM
7 years, 1 month, and a week, Jim. -_-

Russ
09-02-2008, 01:07 PM
So anyways, why don't we use last year's categories as a base, then add/subtract catagories until we have all the ones we want?

MasterSwordUltima
09-02-2008, 02:05 PM
7 years, 1 month, and a week, Jim. -_-

7.5 :)

Add a 7 years, 1 month, and a week category. I'll tear up the competition!

(The number of diamonds you have is the number of full years you've been at AGN + 1.)

Another conflict was the best/worst user name Superlative. Make sure you break this into two separate titles for the nominations. ;)

Can do! :) Other opinions?

Although I personally would also like to add in a few ZC Categories. That's just me though. I mean, hell, just because the superlatives don't take place near ZC's area, and AGN isn't solely a ZC locale, doesn't mean they shouldn't get their fair share of attention. Last year, there was only one question related to ZC. I can think of plenty of categories for nomination offhand.

>_> ...Where do you live, again?

And penguins? PFFT! We have polar bear invasions yearly. They roam the streets and pick off unwary old ladies returning form the groceries. If the bear don't like what the lady bought... guess what's for dinner.

Ah, why does it add 1 for no reason??? Does joining AGN automatically make you a year older the instant you sign up ;)?

So what is the SuperLaxatives about?

This is a contest in which people get to vote on certain categories of awards for people. You might want to take a gander at last year's Superlatives (http://www.armageddongames.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1165).

ShadowTiger

Did anyone have any they didn't like?

I'll post the criteria from last year as well, just as a refresher.

From this thread (http://www.armageddongames.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99298):

Okay, here's how it'll work. From the list above (In this very post...) PM me with ONE NAME for every category there. If you can't think of someone for that category, I guess you can just leave it blank; It actually wouldn't matter in the end, as someone else will have a name for it, most likely. If not, I'll pick someone.

A few submission guidelines I'd like to mention:

Before it becomes an epidemic, it's best to include the straight username when you mention someone's name. I.e:
Yourself Tiger to the Shadow You Look in a mirror ... are all not the preferred way to be reading through these rapidly. Just say ShadowTiger and I'll be grateful.
The Title of the PM is best stated as: 2007 Superlative Nominations. To see any number of different tiles will get them somewhat confused from non-nomination PM's I may get (Quite possible and probable) and I'd MUCH rather not delete a PM that contains nominations. PM boxes are only so big after all. (Though rest assured, I have plenty of room at the moment, thanks.))

So don't PM me your nominations yet. Lets finalize this list here.

MasterSwordUltima

ShadowTiger

May as well start, but I'm not seeing as big of an impression the superlatives last year made. It's .. "healthy" .. to skip a year once in a while to ensure the next one is met with happy thoughts of an old tradition make it that much more worthwhile to pursue, rather than having it act as a yearly requirement, which can get old fast.

Just a thought.

So if you guys really want to do it, PM me with one nomination for each category.

The PM title must be 2008 Superlative Nominations.

Use all of these categories below.
