I just downloaded the windows version of zelda. Upon loading the first quest it ask for a password how do I get the password?

You shouldn't be opening it with ZQuest. ZQuest is the quest editor. You want to use the quest player, which is Zelda Classic. Don't worry, common mistake. ;)

There is a version of ZC that comes with a file called example_1st.qst, which is basically an unpassworded version of 1st.qst. It is, in fact, an exact replica of 1st.qst, sans the password. They explained why they did that at one point, but I don't remember why

Anyway, yeah. If you intend on editing the original game, use example_1st.qst
